Not quite, because nothing has fundamentally changed about the game except for who's winning. Now, if they took the game and added laser lines on the floor, and made them wear glowing suits and play in the dark with a glowing puck, gave all of the players little golf clubs, made physical contact against the rules, had dancing clowns for a halftime show, and made the Islanders the "Intercontinental Super-Lucky Always Number-one Defeat-ers", then it would be a fair analogy, and you'd probably agree that they were "butchering" something that you grew up with.
I agree, they're different degrees. My point is, Resolute is like changing the jersey styles and trading a few players - if done correctly, its a great thing. RoC is more like trading your star players for some old has-beens and losing your nice colors for neon green and purple. Change can be good for a franchise, or it can be bad. and you'd be agreeing with an irrelevant comparison. |

no, you're talking about the game of Hockey, I'm talking about the individual teams. and the Islanders franchise is a mere shell of one of the greatest Hockey dynasties of all time. but has the utter deterioration of the club butchered what occurred 30 years ago? of course not.
But RoC isn't the result of gradual changes over many years' time, its a deliberate revamping of things that IMO didn't need to be changed. So it would be more like if the Lakers traded all their stair players for less-good ones, and then sold the team to Sacramento and changed the logo and colors, but left the name "lakers".

I really hope there are three more films; that way G.I. Joe will be relevant for another six years and in those six years we may see better G.I. Joe toys.

I CRIED. I was excited about the trilogy: we'll at least get new toys. I hoped, interesting scripts. For a blissful day or two I had hope.
But. Then. I read. The premise of the story mentioned at the very end of the ROC book. The story I hope they never film. That new post-ROC story that would be as outlandish as anything Sunbow or Marvel did--in some ways worse. I can adapt: Zartan as a staffer to ______,? Maybe, MAYBE, but as THE ____???? NFW!!! My fear of that story makes my complaints, ALL of my other complaints, seem trivial in comparison. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THAT STORY, PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THAT AT ALL. Please USE A DIFFERENT STORY LINE FOR THE SECOND MOVIE. It makes the current one look better to me! I am a fan. If that second movie is made with that story that was hinted at, with Zartan as _____, I will not see it. This doesn't matter, except I might be in the majority on this one. Save the franchise, make a different second movie. I cried. And not in a good way. Literally. I hope I'm not understating, or ambiguous? PS: IS LIVE ACTION MOVIE #2 A NEW THREAD? BOYCOTT UN-MADE#2 A NEW SUB-THREAD? I want a second movie. I just don't want that one.

Staffers been done to death. This at least has the potential to be something HUGE and different. I'm eager for a 2nd movie now to see how it all plays out.

If indeed G.I. Joe becomes a trilogy, I hope they retain a more episodic nature rather than try to become an epic saga. I always enjoyed the fact that the 007 films and others like the Lupin the 3rd anime films were not tied down to following the previous story arcs. It still gives writers the option of bringing in characters from and making reference to the previous films but doesn't handcuff them.
In some trilogies like LOTR and starwars, it makes sense, however in other cases like the Matrix and Pirates of the Caribbean, it becomes dogmatic. The "epic saga" approach has ruined the 007 franchise (IMHO) and I was really enjoying Harry Potter until it became a seven part wannabe Lord of the rings. How about keeping it simple and relying more on great story telling instead of trying to turn everything into an epic saga, imagine if they had done this with Matrix, look at Animatrix, any of those short stories would have made better films. Just my opinion guys and gals, feel free to tear me up, LOL. I do think GI Joe should follow the James Bond approach, however. I don't really want to see Cobra fall - personally, I think Cobra works best as a more or less consistent element. Quote:
Maybe that's fair, but the comparison you're making isn't apt either. GI Joe hasn't deteriorated to a shell of what it once was... Resolute, and IMO DD's comic run, and the 25th/Modern Line are all still great.

Cobra needs to win or else it has to completely lose eventually. What good is an organization that constantly loses? Where's the threat? Where's the danger? What's the big deal? Oh now.. Cobra.. eek.. run... boring... Know what I mean? If they constantly lose there's no threat.
So eventually, they have to win and win big, or lose and disappear for good. And what's wrong with Zartan being *****? How is that a bad storyline? There's hundreds of possibilities with that to make an awesome story.

The plot line for the next two movies have been leaked:
Cobra-La takes over the world, all the JOES are dead, and it's up to Ripcord's brother 'Big Lob' played by Damon Wayans to save us all. Along the way, Lady Jaye falls in love with Lob and Flint breaks off his engagement with Zaranna when it's discovered she's actually Zandar in disguise. Hope I didn't spoil that for anyone. Hey! Making up your own Joe continuity can be fun! lol |
