According to the Q&A it seems much of the future of the G.I. Joe line lies on the success (or lack there of) of the ROC movie. So if the movie and ROC toy line are indeed a failure, do you think perhaps Hasbro will go back to making 25th figures again, continue with the ROC line or do you think Hasbro will indeed pull the plug on all Joe related muchendise for awhile?

Was Wolverine a flop? They still are putting out toys for it.
I think they will go back to Modern Era. But I think kids will buy into gi joe, so even if we hate the movie. Its still gonna continue on. The movie line is to bring kids in. |

G.I. Joe has proven to be a viable product, and it is a brand that Hasbro has a huge interest in continuing, so no, they won't pull the plug if ROC doesn't do well. to think that just reveals your own fear and insecurity of losing G.I. Joe and you can't even reasonably come to that conclusion.
will they continue ROC if it doesn't do well? no offense, but that should answer itself. if ROC doesn't do well, Hasbro will search for another formula that probably encompasses the ME line while also having the potential to grow the brand beyond it. no matter if ROC fails, it will undoubtedly draw in some new consumers, and Hasbro is going to want to keep them. |

The movie will do fine no matter how good it is. There are so many fans that are going to see it regardless and will continue to watch Gi joe.

No matter what, we'll be seeing ROC toys in retailers until xmas. I also think the possibility of it totally tanking is slim. |

GI Joe has gone away for periods in the past, and survived in the long run. The 25th line has been waning for a while now, and with few important pre-1986 characters to be released, where else could the line have gone beyond getting into the cheesy 90s characters and more repaints/resculpts? From this perspective, it might be a savvy business strategy for Hasbro to drop everything for a while, and to come back with something new and different when people aren't feeling saturated with product, and there is an increased demand.
Whatever the case, the Sideshow line seems to have a bright future, and that is where my Joe focus is going to be for the foreseeable future. |

obviously Joe will not disappear, but I would not be surprised to see it relegated to online only and TRU exclusives if the movie tanks (less than 50 million total would equal a tanking). Then, I would not be surprised to see them try something else for the franchise in a year or two.

ok if the movie is a flop witch i think it will be. it is all about toys. now if they dont do well they will go back to the 25th style and make more res figs. what they should of done is have 2 lines going like TF SW they could do the movie stuff and the classics/res figs at the same time. they could hold back a month on the classic/res line to give the movie line a fair shot. thats what they should of done instead of backing one bad line. |

no it won't. G.I. Joe has proven to be a strong seller these past couple of years and retailers want it. they aren't going to drop it just because this line fails, they'll simply demand a new approach and smaller quantities that retain the appropriate profit margins for the line.
If Wal-Mart doesn't buy the line, it almost certainly isn't coming out anywhere else, either. Hasbro doesn't do "online only" after DTC failed (and they just re-iterated their commitment to not doing "online only" lines in this week's Star Wars Q & A, mentioning G.I. Joe by name as having failed at that business model), and just selling to Target and Toys R Us is probably not enough for Hasbro to bother with development and production on a line. However, the brand would return eventually. But it's the "something new" that would probably be key to Hasbro and the Retailers' thinking. With two failed attempts at mass-media tie-ins using the RAH-era characters, I would not be at all surprised if the next "stab" at Joe after a failed movie would be something completely and totally different using all new characters and concepts. Every bit as much a "reimagining and relaunch" as RAH Joe was in 1982. Fans thinking that the failure of RoC means an automatic return to Classic/ME might be in for a very rude awakening. |
