I really believe that after El Mayimbe eviscerated the Action Man script, Lorenzo knew this guy had credibility that he could use. In exchange for rosy coverage and running interference on this movie, Lorenzo feeds him info on the movie and other stuff as well.
I'm sure I'm not the first to say that, but this thread is 25 pages long already. |

This rumor's made for some great reading over the last couple of days. Here's my perspective.
(1) The rumor was from an unsubstantiated anonymous source. Until I see some corroboration from a source I trust, I'm not prepared to believe a word of it. It'd be no different than if I were to announce that Rachel Weisz had been cast as Poison Ivy in "Batman 4" (which I did, on my blog, back in January - spread the word!) (2) There has been an official response to the rumor. The rumor has not been debunked or disproven. The response came from unreliable sources - Lorenzo, a man who does not possess a soul, and El Miyambe, a guy who'd probably pimp out his children for a first look at ROC. I'd trust my neighbor's talking dog before I'd believe a word out of their mouths. (And yes, that's a Son of Sam reference.) (3) The fact that no trustworthy source has rebuked the rumor does not give it any credence. It's still an anonymous internet rumor with no supporting evidence of any kind. (Remember, Rachel Weisz as Poison Ivy in "Batman 4"! Oh, and David Goyer's writing and directing. Spread the word!) (4) Even if every word of the rumor is true, it's irrelevant. No amount of editing is going to "save" ROC. It's just not possible. Even if they rushed in some reshoots between now and August, it won't be enough. The movie was flawed from the get-go. (5) No matter what kind of drama has gone on in post-production, this movie will not be delayed or shelved. It's a summer tentpole, we're too close to opening day, too much is riding on it. Paramount has to think about the licensing, the tie-ins, the distributions deals, etc. They've made too many commitments. About the only thing they can do is not screen it for critics - which would be the kiss of death, a sign of no-confidence for their $200 million movie. The only thing Paramount can do is brazen it out. Like it or not, this is happening on August 7.

I still haven't decided what movie I'm going to buy a ticket to so that I can sneak into ROC. I hope the Human Giant guys decide to TwitFlix this movie because I know I will.

Aaaand this is why it doesn't matter what anyone says now.
Unless someone that's never been an employee of Hasbro, Paramount, or any other company even peripherally associated with the film came out and said it was all bunk, none of the "haters" would believe it, "because it's just damage control and they're biased." Even if someone like that -did- come forward, the negative nancies would refuse to believe it because the person then wouldn't have been in a position to know what's going on anyhow. So Paramount is in a no-win situation. There isn't a person on the planet they can bring forward that the haters can't simply say, "Oh, he's biased because he works for the studio, of course he's going to say that." People that have decided to hate this movie are going to hate it no matter what, the only difference is that now they're going to try to use this whole hullabaloo as validation for their hatred. The only counterpoint I'll offer is this: Biased or not, Lorenza di Bonaventura is a verifiable source that would be in a position to know what's going on/has gone on with the film. Whereas the original item that started this whole snowball rolling was an anonymous message board post...not even a piece of journalistic writing. And yet so many are quick to hop to the latter as "more credible" merely because it reflects their own biases and opinions.

No way...others need to know before they go and waste thier monies and get overly disappointed like the rest of us who are. If no one speaks up about it people will just say "oh...guess this is what it is all about huh?"...HELL NO it is not what it is about..it is not GI JOE and never will be people...to anyone who is unsure you will BE DISAPPOINTED so don't pay Paramount a dime for doing this to one of the BEST army toylines/stories EVER to be put on TV/Comic. It is not what you remember. It is not a reboot...it is a travesty and a overtly large eyesore.
Pass it on! Word of mouth will kill this show once and for all...Sommers can be the scape goat and Paramount can take an ass whipping in the bank for spending 170 MEEELION! dollars on a DVD rental at most...popcorn flick...just something to somwhat enjoy and laugh it off and go home for the evening? That SAYS a lot in it's self for how much of a let down it really is...go figure LOL. Presidence can happen, change can happen...but in ROCs case..they chose to err on the weak sauce staples that has made any feature film of this magnitude bland, mediocore an down right insulting to those who know anything about the story, mythos, character backgrounds+specialites etc etc etc etc...who are the ones that should be talking it up with thier freinds and family to get everyone esle excited...they shat on us as thier cheerleaders so the boat can sink for all I care. Believing the reporters who are in bed with the directors/stuido heads is ludicrous...they are the VOICE of those people and of course they are there to squash any rumors however true or false they may be...until official word is given with great evidence (i.e. get Jeraldo Rivera intestigating on em) to prove other wise..this is not debunked and never will be...Sommers has had unrefutable effects on the future of GI JOE and should be held direclty responsible for his actions as well as the Paramount CEO, CFO and Board Memebers...
