I, for one, love that the team is international. It DOES make sense that an international terrorist organization would be fought by an international team. I envision the Joe's as being akin to Rainbow Six. A solely american team would not have jurisdiction to look for giant snake shaped temples in Europe or Africa or South America.

I don't mind GI Joe being an international force. If a global organization is threatening the world, I want the world to step up. Not just team America.

A couple things:
There's a "lag time" between novels/movie novelizations and movies that often results in novelizations having "deleted scenes" and "alternate takes" and different dialogue from the finished film. This is because the manuscripts usually have to be turned in before the movie finishes filming. So this prequel novel may (or may not) have some details wrong when it comes to the finished film. There are rumors that the G.I. Joe film has been much more "Americanized" since the leaked script that came out several months ago. If the rumors are to be believed, it's to the point that it is indeed an American organization that includes International members. Even if it's not, it has more American members than any other single nationality, and is led by an American general. The "main characters/heroes" of the film (Duke, Ripcord, and Snake-Eyes if rumors are to be believed about Hama "forcing" them to make him American vs something else), are all American. Scarlett might also be American, but they might have kept her Australian (depending on if she kept her accent during filming). Anyway, it's hardly as if America is completely gone from G.I. Joe even if it -is- still an international force. |

I will say it again!!
This is from the review posted in: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ise-cobra.html "The G.I. Joes–as an organization–veer off from the hyper Americana reputation that it’s known for; G.I. Joe is a top secret branch of NATO that recruits members from all over the world." WTF? |

So? We've known/suspected this for months. The only difference is that instead of the UN like everyone feared, it's NATO which at least has an actual military organization.
But beyond that, it was a test screening...one of the main reasons for test screenings is to find out what audiences like and don't like so they can be changed/tweaked prior to release. |

I don't know if this has been pointed out or not, but GI Joe has always been an international force/NATO force except to toy consumers in the US. The movie reflects this fundamental tradition.
Which is to say, here in Canada, the toys always came with a few file cards with Canadians IDs--I got Grunt, one of the original 9, and he was a Canadian, from Trois Rivieres I think, and my VAMP came with a big ol' Maple Leaf sticker. Now, really, this doesn't make me "righter" than those who've always known it as a US thing, but it does mean that this kind of attempts towards international appeal predate the movie, and go back to the original release of the toys. |

I don't think they can change the SHIT story line this late! Freaking NATO! LMAO!! WTF has NATO ever done that is right? Jack and Shit.....and Jack left town! |

I know some folks wish we were still on the verge of nuclear war with the Soviet Union, but contrary to popular belief, it wasn't just Ronald Reagan that ended the Cold War. |

Yeaaaah, nevermind. I made the mistake of thinking you had any interest whatsoever in intelligent conversation.
Or any capacity for it. My mistake. |
