Well I'm 100% fine with an international team. It's the world in it together. If they called it a French Force, Canadian Force, Middle Eastern Force, or even Chinese Force sure I'd be a little upset, luckily they didn't. How do you think those countries feel about it being an all American Force? The Real American Hero aspect is surely inspiring and motivational to fellow Americans but honestly I can't see other countries appreciating that. I wouldn't necessarily say the ROC story sold out, it's just incorporating other nations. Isn't that something you'd want? Everyone fighting together for the greater good.

Actually, in most cases they weren't modelled after any particular military, including the US (in fact, many of the uniform elements of the Original 13 Joes were actually European in design/stylings). Very few Joes wore uniforms that were "authentic/accurate US military." Which was why it was easy to rebrand them into various other nationalities in other countries.

Yeah, I can't see how it's unreasonable to consider marketing too. The whole reason toy companies and movies exist is to make profit. A lot of countries dislike America and a lot related to it. Honestly If i lived in another country why the hell would I want to buy the REAL AMERICAN HERO? If you think for a second with a rational thought process a small change such as making a group of freedom fighters international isn't the worst thing that ever happened. I like it better. It adds mass variety. Not every country would want to support a pro-america movie, and based on the knowledge of a lot of people that's all GI Joe is. There's more to Joe than that and I can't see how so many ignorant fans can't look past the small stuff and see that there's more to it than that. The fans, if anyone, should know that. It's pathetic. It's pathetic that the fans have such a latent disregard for what it is. It's a movie based on action figures. That's all it ever was. Making such a big fuss and pointless rants and hating and getting others to not want to see it is f#@$ing stupid. The thing that will accomplish is worse/no product. Plus paramount will lose money, which will probably affect cool movies like this from being taken into consideration to be made. Fans of GI Joe, are for the most part, very closed minded. So much in fact they are willing to kill their idolized franchise because "it's not what they grew up with". Really? Most of you are adults, Shouldn't adults be more mature about things like this? Grow up. I'm sure there are some that have but c'mon really? Things change; things grow up. Congratulations, Joe hit puberty. All of a sudden it's an abomination to the fans. Most of my friends and people I know could care less about GI Joe. When I was younger I tried to get my friend to play with joes but he said it was stupid. He actually thinks the movie looks awesome. Which I was surprised. From a movie standpoint the average person couldn't give two shits where the characters are from or what they used to look like. Most people don't even know any character in Joe. People are interested in seeing a decent movie. The original Joe plot makes for a crappy film script, i truly believe that. CC as a car salesman wouldn't work well on screen. The car salesman's rise to power wouldn't fit in a two hour movie while still trying to characterize everyone else. Even the look of each character(mainly Cobra) would look incredibly stupid on screen. Sure things in the film are ridiculous looking, but not as ridiculous as how it would look if it followed ARAH to every detail. Even if they copied the look from Resolute, it wouldn't help it from looking ridiculous on screen. Honestly, I don't think much can be done to make joe look not ridiculous, and arguing over something as trivial as a character's birthplace is even more ridiculous.

Its stupid bullshit.
I love Japanese toys and action figures. I go into a toy store and I see Godzilla toys, and I think cool awesome. I see Gundam toys, and I think cool awesome. There's very little that's American about these toys, but I still like them. I'm sick and tired of you people submitting to this shit that yeah everyone must hate us. At UFC 99 in Germany, German fans were loud and clear chanting USA for an American fighter. |

Beyond that, what was the nationality of the other fighter involved? Was he German? Come to think of it, was the US contender a member of the military or an official representative of the government? I doubt it. You're taking shots in the dark. These circumstances aren't a vacuum. Neither does every nation on Earth "hate" us, but a peoples' opinions of our military and political forces vs. one fighter in a competition are not the same thing. But given that you've stooped to thinly veiled insults now, I can't imagine any of this will intrude upon your own sense of reality. Last edited by Jmacq1; 06-18-2009 at 02:03 PM.. |

You guys are acting like I only want to buy "american" toys. Its bullshit.
Yup. Most of the audience were locals to Cologne. No, the US fighter was not in the military. The other fighter was not German. I'm not taking shots in the dark. I watched the event and you didn't. You don't even know who was fighting or what fight I am talking about do you? You are the ones taking shots in the dark with your irrelevant, "well he must be in the military and soldiers are cheering for him!"

They have made it politically biased by doing this. Politically against the origins and roots of GI JOE itself.

I rather like the idea pitched a number of pages back about having 'G.I.Joe' being the US branch of a bigger international military organization. With 'Action Force' for Europe, 'Oktober Guard' for Russia, and then maybe create new teams for Africa, Asia, South America, Austrailia, etc.... That would be awesome.
Each team would have their own unique looks. G.I.Joe obviously using the more typical camo patterns U.S. military use instead of that tacky grey, light blue, white pattern they have in the movie... Of course, to have focus on all these different teams would equal more money needing to be put in sadly, so obviously it wouldn't happen. |
