well the all so popular joes we are familure with are mainly american. but the g i joe franchise didnt make it threw the 80's from american buyers only.
these toys have always been sold world wide. america was just the advertisement hasbro was using. since g ijoe came out when america was all gungho about the vietnam war and the days of bruce springsting (the all american working man). there were still kids in japan, china, australia, england and canada with these toys dont forget the october guard. at times they joined forces with the joes. i would assume that that made them an international group. yeah it kinda sucks to us americans that we get turnned out by hasbro or paramount over the mighty dollar. but remember , most of the rest of the world isnt so hardcore about america. even some of the people that move to the states dont care about american history or pride. they just come here for the mighty dollar, then send it back home to wherever they are from. as for me i never really cared for the joes. i am all about cobra.as long as cobra messes the joes up reall bad, i could really give a flying fart .

As far as the movie goes,
Hawk - American Duke - American Ripcord - American Scarlett - American Snake-Eyes - American Only Cover Girl, Breaker, & Heavy Duty aren't American. The original toy line had: Back Stop - Canadian Big Ben - English Taurus - Turkish Red Dog - Samoan Sky Mate - Australian And probably more that I can't remember. The only place G.I.Joe was "A Real American Hero" was in America. Everywhere else was "International Hero."

Actually there's no evidence to support that Snake Eyes is American in the movie yet.
Freedom, maybe they just shouldn't have made a GI JOE movie for the rest of the world then. |

Can I get that map in globe format? Isn't it china who makes joe anyway. It's the red army not the red white and blue army.

thankfully I've never trusted critics.
I can accept it being a NATO branch as that would be the most realistic way G.I.Joe would come about, but I had read that the NATO angle was changed due to fan and military out cry.I'll see if i can find that again

I wish there was yet another thread about how the movie will suck....oh wait...here it is...nevermind.
Making GI Joe a team with international ties and membership makes sense, both from a story angle and financially. A movie this size needs to have a good international box office to make a profit. Domestic alone isn't enough. The US military industrial complex isn't exactly being triumphed around the world these days. Therefore, making the team international might help draw in foreign viewers, which this franchise will need to survive. Americans aren't the only ones fighting terrorism, despite miopic views of some flag-wavers. Having a team comprised of the best-of-the-best from around the world makes sense. As does having clearance to travel into all the worldwide locations this film will certainly feature. So overall, big deal if GI Joe is international now. They're still military men and women fighting an outlandish super-terrorist organization. Snake-Eyes is still a ninja. Scarlett is a redhead with a crossbow. Duke is still the blonde tough guy. Heavy Duty is a black guy with big guns. Breaker is a communications and tech guy. And Ripcord is still.... |

Exactly. If it was the UN they would keep on trying to appease Cobra after threats and attacks with "Diplomacy".
G.I.Joe is an American force. If they want to try and erase it's 50 year history good luck, it's synonymous with America. While the last trailer looks much better this movie is a crap shoot. It could be a hit or a real bomb. I do not have a good feel for it right now in terms of performance, The curse of the Waynes Brother may factor in. After seeing how the much hyped Terminator: Salvation underperformed I am not sure how people will react to more robotic looking dudes. After Transformers, and getting released in August is a bit iffy. Back ti the topic they should have at least been based out of America and not a pyramid. I could have swallowed the International crap more. |
