Duke was actually a lot older than late 20's or even 30. His old filecard from 1984 states that he enlisted in the Army in '67. Assuming he's only 18 in '67 (he could have been oder for all we know), that would have made him a healthy 35 in 1984.

Considering that they are trying to 're-envision' G.I. Joe for the current generation......and considering that even all those p*ssing and moaning about the 'who/what/where/when/why' of the upcoming movie are going to be among the first in line to watch it........they are playing to the crowds.
Besides, if the movie takes hold and can bring about sequels......the characters, much like they did in the comic, will 'mature' as they go along. Just like in the 'Harry Potter' movies........

Like Irid70 said, look at our military now, it's filled with "kids". A good percentage of those enlisted are 18-30 right now. We just need to face it, we are getting older and not everything can remain the way we saw it when we were 8 years old.

although I understand the age perception issue, I still agree with this…

heres how i view it........i want actors and actresses to resemble the card art for these characters.
my perception of the artworks make me believe that they are pretty much all mid-late 30's...especially those in the "leadership" positions. duke, scarlett, stalker, flint -- a tad older...guys/gals like clutch, flash, breaker, covergirl...late 20s to early 30s. i just want to see my toys on the big screen. |

I do see the original team members being a little older and more seasoned. Probably a reason Ray Park is perfect for Snake Eyes, if not even a little old. Duke should be at least mid-30's as many others have already said, and Hawk even a little older. But when it comes to the waves of characters introduced after 1985, most could be anywhere 20-25 and still fit.
From what I have seen, people in the military seem to be a little more mature than those of us outside of it at that age range (18-25), very likely due to the discipline and training. Add a lot more if they have seen action. Problem is Hollywood stars at the same age are unlikely to seem at the same maturity level or experiences. I think that's another reason we think they should be casting older actors/actresses. |

Regardless of the age of the actor I think they should be the best possible for the role. I'm happy with the Baroness, Scarlet, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. I'm not happy that it is Heavy Duty and not Roadblock but the guy was playing Roadblock I don't think he could pull off sounding like he is from Mississippi. Breaker is too old (go figure) and Cobra Commander is too young. Ripcord is just wrong.

I'm not so much concerned with the age of the actors as I am with the style of their acting. I want people that can act like mature military officers not immature JROTC rejects. You can have young officers that have that gritty war-torn feel to them.
I think that the problem with movies and tv shows today is that actors aren't very masculine anymore. You don't have that macho charisma that we got in the 80s. You don't have many characteres like Dutch or Snake Plisken or even Cpl Hicks. It seems like being a badass isn't cool these days but rather being a metrosexual playboy who gets into wacky zany antics is. I suppose a lot of it has to do with the sex-appeal of this time and age.... |
