Yeah, I'm with Doc on this one. The last new Joe product I bought were the Tiger Rat and Python Conquest at Target, but that was 4 MONTHS AGO!!!
The Hall of Heroes figures were also lame as they are just $10 repaints. The Resolute cartoon was cool, but it was so under-promoted that I almost missed it if not for hisstank's updates. And RoC looks like it is going to be almost unwatchable. I'm also upset with the are they/aren't they treatment of Wave 14 of the single carded figures and Wave 5 of the Vehicles. |

y'know it's not just about there being no joe-product on the shelf for months. I can fully appreciate the market and Hasbro not operating in a vaccum etc. etc. but what really gets me passionate is the fact that the big box retailers dedicate a few mere pegs to Joe product while other movie toylines get friggin shelves and end-caps. And what's worse, Hasbro doesn't seem to promote the hell out of G.I. Joe as they do their transformers brand - what f'n gives? The Joe brand has more history that TF.
It'll be interesting to see how Hasbro promotes G.I. Joe to the big box retailers because let me tell you to this very day our shelves are still clogged with Batman, Hulk, and Indy toys from those movies - and of course G.I. joe has a couple of pegs.

It should also be mentioned that the MARS 3-pack was supposed to be a preview of the upcoming movie line, but it only hit the shelves in Canada...?

It'll be interesting to see how Hasbro promotes G.I. Joe to the big box retailers because let me tell you to this very day our shelves are still clogged with Batman, Hulk, and Indy toys from those movies - and of course G.I. joe has a couple of pegs. It might not get quite as much space as Transformers 2, but I guarantee it's going to have as much or more than Star Trek or Terminator did, and certainly more than we've seen from the Joe line in years. The reason Joe gets less shelf-space without a media tie in...is because there isn't a media tie-in, and because the brand's overall sales do not warrant larger shelf space. Hasbro is a business, and business is about what's making money now, not what made money 20 years ago. The fact that G.I. Joe is on shelves at all demonstrates Hasbro's commitment to the brand, because it certainly hasn't been a "top earner" for them in quite some time. Hasbro "promotes" the hell out of ALL its' brands to the retailers...that's practically the whole point of Toy Fair and the convention season. But if the retailers don't buy into it, there isn't squat Hasbro can do to get more shelf space for a line. The proof is in the sales, and overall the G.I. Joe line's sales haven't been there compared to its' larger "cousins" at Hasbro. Last edited by Jmacq1; 06-04-2009 at 12:37 PM.. |

Jmacq1, you should know by now, that the voice of reason is unheard around these parts.
Joe fans from the '80s have a huge sense of entitlement, they think it should be what they want and when they want it. Resolute was never intended to be a huge line like RoC is. The movie and the limited number of figures were made as a gift, a sign of appreciation, to the old school fans. New figures are coming. The Wave 5 vehicles are coming tomorrow or there abouts. Get RoC next month and then there's a ton of new RoC product that will keep the shelves stocked from July 11th thru next year.

Are you sure it's fans from the '80's? One would assume a fan from the '80's would be in their early 30's. One would also assume that one in their early 30's would be mature enough and intelligent enough to understand how business works.
It HAS to be young fans who act this irrational over toys. Right?
