Exactly. As long as they have weapons that are actually to scale, then I have no problem.
But if they go back to 'bigger is better' then it will be. Quote:
Now if the only equipment the figures came with was the spring-loaded missile launchers, then there would be a valid complaint.
But as it's just a throw-in accessory, there's nothing to complain about. I bet Marauder's wishs the spring-loaded was the only accessory. He'd make enough to retire. |

And why did that generation not like war toys in general? Thier parents...so they went all power ranger on the figures and tried to connect in Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat to trick the "kiddies" parents into thinking differntly...oh its just ninjas thats not a war toy her ya go Timmeh....
That in itself killed warlike stuff more than anything aside form cops shooting kids with toy guns...I remember my joes for the LONGEST time saying "weapons do NOT shoot"...I could have cared less LOL...

It wasn't the spring loaded missiles that killed G.I. Joe. It was all of us growing up and not buying/playing with toys (until we got older and could justify it as "collector's items"). We grew up and there was no new fanbase that latched onto Joe. The generation after us wasn't interested in military toys.
That's what killed G.I. Joe. Spring-loaded weapons had nothing to do with it. Even Transformers very nearly disappeared at the time..."Generation 2" came out but basically fizzled, and it wasn't until the reinvention that was Beast Wars popped up that it attracted a new audience that kept that franchise strong. Along the way, Hasbro re-introduced the Star Wars line to toy shelves, and voila...a few years later 80's nostalgia was in full-swing and the adult collector became a viable demographic to market to. Kids were still where the big money was at, but at least there was a "fall back" now. |

The Wolverine and Marvel Universe figures were priced at 7.99, same as Joe will be, and those didn't have the extra spring-loaded weapons and didn't have anywhere near the amount of extra accessories that the Joe figures have.
So there goes that reason. $7.99 is the price of 3-3/4" action figures now, doesn't matter what is included in the package.

You know, for oversized plastic weapons, you'd think that one of the designers is trying to "over-compensate" for something.

If they'd had spring-loaded weapons all along, you'd probably be doing the Meposian Dance of Joy right now. "Weapons do not shoot" was fine with us because that's just the way it was. After the "Battlestar Galactica" scare in the late 70's/early 80's spring loaded weapons that shot little missiles were practically banned from shelves (due to being considered a choking hazard). Funny thing is, I remember playing with the rocket launcher that came with Red Star a heck of a lot. Thought it was pretty cool at the time. |

I dunno I think they are going to be 8.99 to 9.99 a figure at most places (8.98 and 9.98 at walmart super low pricing scheme). And the 2 packs are going to be 11.99 to 12.99 (replacing current 2 pak comics) and then the vehicles 15-18 and on up form there...$2-3 more per figure/vehicle hike for the extra cheap plastic gimicks is in line with thier thinking and I agree with that assessment (but not the price but hey its Amerika)

actually just liek star wars.....the marvel stuff is NOT in house property like transformers and gi joe so theres royalties to be paid. Their inhouse properties COULD be lower but they need a reason to keep up with their licensed properties prices so the toss in some springloaded junk, say oh kids love the stuff and blamo instant price hikes to match their over priced other stuff.

It's simple economics. Price to produce goes up (which there has been evidence that it has), Hasbro still has to maintain the same profit margin (they have to pay their employees as well, no one works for free).
So if at $6.99, Hasbro was making $1.00 profit (just throwing numbers, no one freak out or start the "they make way more then that" arguement, it's an example to illustrate a point), and the price to produce goes up $1.50. Wouldn't Hasbro need to raise their prices that $1.50 in order to maintain the same margin they were before and not have to lay off employees or cut salaries of their hard-working employees?
