SO. I, myself, am totally open to changes in the mythos. I think it's not only healthy... but necessary. Keep the essence of the background and characters, but take advantage of the new medium: F I L M. ...precisely, my biggest worry is the film __as a film__. It is Sommers after all. I hated most of his films. Yes, the Mummy too. Many friends or coleagues have told me: "oh come on, it's only meant to be fun", to which I reply: "Yes... just like Raiders of the Lost Ark". See what I'm saying? The best of both worlds can be had: good entertainment + good crafmanship. Above all... I pray the makers will avoid unnecessary comic relief. That was one of the things that ruined Transformers for me. I go to see movies like this to be entertained, which is NOT achieved by pulling one joke after another. And this is a very common practice in Hollywood nowadays. Scripts just aren't as clever as they were a few years ago. Again comes Raiders of the Lost Ark as an example: that's a film filled with funny moments... but in no way through the use of fart jokes and the such. "It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage...". Where did the good screenwriters go? The good news is that I have faith in Stuart Beattie (G.I.Joe's writer). The fact that this film will be aimed at kids does NOT excuse the makers. BTW, the fact that this film is aimed at kids is weird already. Might have made sense in the 80s... but a military film aimed at kids today? hmmm... I'm still TOTALLY open to what this film may bring to the table. But, know this: I will not judge this film as an adaptation... but as a FILM. Sure, I would love this to be a good adaptation (which DOES NOT mean "exact copycat"), but I am worried about it being a good film first and foremost.

Hmmmm.......... are you serious? Have you really even looked at the political climate these days. Yeah, what bout it? I could be wrong. I don't live in the U.S. ...but things sure aren't the same as when ARAH was in its "heyday", back in the Reagan days.

Regardless of the current wave of conservatism in this country, people here will not be upset about a GI Joe film, this is a toy line after all.

Sysiss, the TRANSFORMERS did suck, period. the movie was basically a car commercial and a nerdy kid with eyeglasses and a hot chick.
do you know why Frank Miller's movies do so well? 300 & Sin City, because he makes them JUST LIKE THE COMIC. he's not trying to appease to every generation. he makes it one way, the right way, they are awesome and people love it. those movies are already classics in my eyes. so you can stop all that nonsense talk. |

I don't care though because the local theater will get my $8 and I'll enjoy it. |

I hope they adapt the original Joe movie, scene for scene, in live action format.
And after its a huge success, the could launch a new live-action TV show which would build on the movie by retelling of how Cobra Commander comes back from a snake to a person again... ...that would be great. Right? Who's with me? Anyone? No one? Man... ...in all seriousness though, with some of the casting announcements and rumors of plotlines, the live-action retelling of the first movie might turn out better. Good grief I hope I'm wrong...
