Thankfully, no.
Already have the Blu-ray and still never watched it a second time. Never watched ROC a second time either, but I probably will get around to it someday. Retaliation, I don't think I ever will. It's incompetently and inartfully produced on nearly every level. The ninja cliff fight scene was good though. I'd watch that part alone again. The problem was it wasn't a low-budget action flick. It had $130 million budget. It just looked cheap. Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation was $150 million 2 years later and was fantastically good-looking and entertaining. And whatever extra budget they had probably went to the cast. |

* - Movie studios generally get 40% to 50% of the total gross. So if we figure for marketing and other ancillary costs, it's probably a good bet that G.I. Joe: Retaliation either just broke even or made so little money relative to the time, money, and effort that went into it so as to make the idea of a third film less palatable to potential investors/producers. |

I had such high hopes for Retaliation, too, since director Jon Chu seems like a genuine Joe fan (didn't he post in these forums at some point?). That said, I don't know if his creative vision for the film was undermined by producers or marketing or whatever, but we can only judge the film for what actually made it to the theaters, not for what might have been. And what actually got released wasn't very good. Last edited by zuludelta; 04-08-2016 at 02:18 PM.. |

Chu was known for dance movies and a Justin Beiber doc. The cards were on the table.
And zuludelta is 100% about Retaliation's cost-to-profit ratio, as is JediJones' assertion that it felt like a TV Movie of the Week despite having a $130 million budget. It's funny...ROC and Retaliation are polar opposites of one another. Retaliation got right a lot of what ROC got wrong, but none of what ROC actually managed to do well. As a result they're both weak movies in totally different ways.
