Considering that we live in a world where Marvel Studios (out of necessity,) launched a successful film franchise using their B and C list characters, Daredevil and Jessica Jones is geared towards an adult audience. The Killing Joke and the next Wolverine movie will be Rated R. Deadpool was not only had a potty mouth, but wore his uniform complete with the white eye slits, and the perhaps the most garbage concept in fandom, (the DC Multiverse,) was introduced into a t.v. and worked, I would think that we would have learned our lesson about saying what concepts would and wouldn't work in a television or film project. With the right director, executive producers, script, and actors a JOE movie set in any time period, using any characters would work.

You know, after watching Daredevil on Netflix, a live action show seems like they could cover more ground and character development would not need to be rushed in 90 minutes. Maybe a movie is the wrong idea?

Oh God a Netflix live action Joe Ensemble TV show that stayed / strayed to or from the comic in the same vein as the Netflix Dardevil would be HEAVEN. And any of you who have seen that show know it. They could develop/ tease it out over several seasons slowly revealing the Cobra, backstory, Ninja side s of the plot and it would be GLORY.

A fine idea. Like "The Unit", but without the wives/melodrama. It would be lighter/more humor, larger-scale action (tank/chopper/naval battles) and slightly comic-booky Cobra adversaries.

Fun idea. It worked okay for the Watchmen movie. Next to Suicide Squad, G.I. Joe was my favorite cold war era comic series. I think the movies from both franchises could've been better set in the 80s. There was a lot more wrong with these movies than time setting though.

How about a live action TV series set in the 80s?
We might get to see all the favorite characters and more familiar ones all based on the vintage toyline, the classic comics of Marvel and the Sunbow Cartoons. The characters we like to see The Joes: 1982 1983 1984 1985 1986 1987 1988 1989 Cobra: Same as above Dreadnoks Torch Ripper Buzzer all of them 1986-1989 Iron Grenadiers The vehicles: 1982-1989

There is a massive problem in modern cinema from major studios that goes far beyond a franchise or the period it’s set in. They continue to phone it in with these financially-focused formulas and honestly, there just isn’t much made nowadays that’s very good. A literal representation of the original ARAH #1 story put to film could be amazing if handled by the right cast and crew, but that rarely happens these days. There is virtually no heart or magic left in film. At this point, I’d rather they stop trying. At least at the blockbuster big-production level.

Make it animated and follow the comic, then I'm on-board.

To clarify my post above; there are some more recent films that do have a GI Joe “feel” to them - meaning, with some minor character alterations and name changes, they could easily be reinterpreted as a GI Joe film. There are a list of some in this post:
http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...-gi-joe-3.html And while it’s an older film from the 90s, Ronin is a great film that kind of has the same feel as the supplementary “Hot Potato” story from GI Joe ARAH #1, albeit in an entirely different setting. And Firebase by Blomkamp (seriously - if you haven’t seen this, it’s on Youtube. Go watch it!) takes place during the Vietnam conflict and displays some amazing sci fi tech and supernatural plot elements that could have easily fit into any of the Sunbow cartoons. There are a LOT of ways a GI Joe movie - or any movie, for that matter - could be well made and interesting. But the process of modern cinema from larger studios just continues to turn out subpar crap, and it’s really sad when a beloved franchise like GI Joe gets pillaged for nostalgia while carrying over virtually nothing that made the brand so popular in the first place.
