and his rank AND title in ARAH was First Sergeant. I love how people conveniently forget it's enlisted guys that make up 90% of the Army...

In, the movie, it was confusing. In the flashback scene where Duke proposes to the Baroness, he was wearing his Dress Blues... and his rank was shown as Major.
His ARAH file card has always listed him as an E-8, but sometimes they have called him a "MAster Sergeant" which is the same pay grade as a "First Sergeant", but not really the same... ask any Army 1SG, and they will tell you that being a Master Sgt. would be a lateral demotion. It makes sense that the field commander would need to be an officer. And a Major or a Captain would make sense. However, that's just not who Duke is. It could have been Falcon, Claymore, or Grid-Iron, but not Duke. In my Joeverse, I use Duke as a Command Sergeant Major for the Joe Team. He's the Senior Enlisted Man in the Unit, and works directly for General Hawk. I also use Flint as a CW-5, the highest Warrant Officer rank in the Army, and he also works directly for General Hawk in HQ Company. Because in my humble opinion, Duke will always be an NCO, and Flint will always be a Warrant Officer. I just don't see any of the other senior enlisted guys, like Gung-Ho or Stalker, outranking Duke. Just my opinion.

This was mentioned at the Con at the ROC panel. They stated that their military advisor no longer works for them... then they hired a new advisor which caught the gaffe but it was too late to re-shoot it. And to correct it through CGI would be too expensive.

I saw that and thought it was a hell of promotion.

I agree with Duke being a 1Sgt. It states in his file cards that he has refused a commission. He wants to be in the fight. If any promotion is given to Duke it should be Command Sgt. Major of G.I. Joe. And he only answers to the Command Sgt. Major of the Army and of course Gen. Hawk.
Now as for the ROC Duke. The Flashback scene does have him wearing the rank of Major. But he was always addressed as a Captain. I really wasn't feeling that. But what really bugged me was Rex. Rex in the same flashback was ranked as a Major too. But in the scene where they bombed the building/bunker, Rex was wearing the rank of Cpl. Last edited by Beachhead808; 09-01-2009 at 06:41 PM.. |
