Ah but I don't really care what you said and don't feel like wasting my time to read your points either. I just can't see folks wasting money to go see a movie when they are out of work but hey, what do I know, I am no economist and really could not care less if movies like this bomb or not. I only know I am not going to see it and noone in my family plans to see it either. Moving right along.

How much money had Christopher Nolan's movies made before Batman Begins? How about Bryan Singer and X-Men? George Lucas prior to Star Wars? Steven Spielberg before Jaws? Consider your point well and truly refuted. A Director's past performance doesn't dictate his (or her) future performance. If the Director isn't named Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorcese, Oliver Stone, Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, or James Cameron, the average American moviegoer really doesn't give a hoot about who the Director is. Right right...because Directors never have movies that end up making more money than any of their previous efforts. Never happens, nope. Especially when those movies probably have a larger marketing effort than anything they've previously done.

It'll probably rake in anywhere between $50 million and $70 million on opening movie weekend, which sounds like typical numbers for a heavily advertised (G/PG-rated) summer action movie (the numbers are jsut guesstimates off the top of my head, though, and not backed up by anything like fact).
Opening weekend numbers aren't that important these days anyway. Unless a movie seriously seriously bombs at the box-office (Speed Racer, for example), most studios backing heavily-hyped films end up recouping at least some of their production costs with DVD sales and on-demand video licensing. |

The Mummy movies were hits. If RoC does the same as those, then it'll be a hit of a movie. So according to you, because it's a Sommers movie, it'll be a hit and make a good chunk of money. Enough to make multiple sequals. Sweet.

i think it'll do between 60-80 (i voted 70 to 80) but i don't think it'll have legs ~ I'll say 150 mil final tally. The advance hollywood buzz around it has been nothing but negative and it's coming at the end of blockbuster season.
the flip side, it's coming 3 weeks after Harry Potter, without any solid blockbusters opening, and there's nothing big the weekend after (although i'm stoked for District ) so it could feasibly do better there. but after that it's gonna go downhill fast, even if it's only half as cheesey as it looks. Edit: and i don't expennt RoC to bomb, just underperform ~ i just can't believe we are going to see a Transformers-like franchise born here, which i think was one of the big mistakes in removing itself so incredibly far from the source material.

I got to side with VQ, I think ROC will shock everyone with a big box office opening. I have no facts or figures to back this up just my own feelings. I know that at least 3 joe fans (myself and 2 sons) will be there.
