Now I really can't wait for it to open so I can look back at this thread and rub it into all of your nay-saying little faces. Too many of you are basing your decision on "opening weekend take" on your own whiny feelings. Deep inside you know it is going to make a good haul and I bet it just eats at all of you bashers. Every damn thread I go into is filled with you crybabies pissing and moaning about the movie. Grab a hanky, grow up and shut up already! Sure it's not going to be any Dark Knight, and it isn't going to be very G.I. Joe, but I'm sure there's enough action, story, and special effects to make it a blockbuster.

LOL...Yesterday, one questioned about R.O.C. being compared to Sigma 6 spawned a three hour debate. I see this doing much of the same.
But in terms of econimic times of crisis, it happened the in the great depression as well as these days, that the entertainment industry never looses. From Monopoly being a success back in the day to us STILL buying toys when we can't pay bills. Sometimes we need a good laugh, or a way to amuse ourselves in our worst times. So basing ticket sales during an economic crisis is really reaching. It's kind of saying that one movie will do better because DESPITE how utterly broke one is, when it comes to latest installment on the Batman franchise, it's a priorty. When in truth, if you want amusement you're gonna just do it. |

I just hope this movie doesn't suffer from Wayans curse and completely implode ala Dungeons & Dragons.

D&D was SO freaking strange, I'm not even sure what it was about. I've never seen a movie where I keep looking at the DVD case to double check I was watching the same movie. At the same time I wasn't expecting much, it had the white guy in it who's a talented as a leper. Wayans was a delight in comparison to him. :-)

Wow, meaningless numbers.
Ask the average movie goer on the street, they won't know who Sommers is. They'll know the Mummy movies, but if you say "Do you know what movies Stephen Sommers has done" most of 'em won't know. If you say "he's the director of the Mummy movies" that will get a different reaction. Most people don't pay attention to director, writer or any of that. It's usually stars. There's a reason that ads say "from the director of such and such movie". People don't know the names of the directors, but they know the movies. The Mummy and Van Helsing opening numbers work, because those are similar type movies (popcorn adventure type movies). X-Men, Hulk, Fantastic Four and Transformers work for opening numbers (similar type movies with similar demographics). So wow, looks like Joe can expect to have a good opening weekend.

The numbers do not lie, his movies do not rack in the dollars like the rest of the movies ROC keeps geeting compared too. Sorry, it just isn't in the numbers.
