And when they make out together... That's why some of the people were unaccounted for in the test groups. Heart attack.

Dude...seriously? You're saying that you--alone--as a layman non-film maker could do a better job? That's pretty arrogant.
The "clowns" huh? You realize that most of the people working on ROC are just regular guys like you and me right? Electricians, accountants, interns, food service, costumers, model makers. These "clowns" go to work and draw a pay check just like any joe blow out there. I love the fact that you haven't even seen the movie and you are already determined to hate it. Are you going to see it? I challenge you NEVER to see the movie. Ever. Why put yourself through such a horrible experience? My guess is you WILL see it so you can fulfill your own prophecy and then we will all get to hear you bitch about it for years to come. Look, I have said it before and I will say it again, the day I see it I very well may get on the forums and blast it for being a bad movie. But, I HAVE NOT SEEN IT YET therefore I will not get on and spout off ignorantly about something I know nothing about. I mean really, people are talking about seeing 5 minutes of the film and that's enough to rule it a hidious abomination? What have we really seen? 5 minutes of quick clips. Seriously that's 4% of the film IF the running time is only 120 minutes. 4% of the content of the film and you already know its going to bomb and that the film makers have raped your childhood. Give it a rest till after you see the film and then come back and give it an honest review. THAT I will look forward to. Quote:
And maybe they're not. Your "supreme vision" of what you think G.I. Joe should be may only resonate with 30 year old G.I. Joe nerds (and even then only some of them...because not all of us see G.I. Joe as "gritty n' realistic"). Pretty small audience. I somehow doubt you're a successful marketer of multi-million dollar movie franchises. In fact, I also doubt you've ever written a successful Hollywood screenplay. So forgive me if I doubt your ability to successfully write and market a major hollywood production, even if it's about G.I. Joe.
But hey, if you want to list your credits and awards for your professional screenplays, feel free to prove me wrong. Basically, maybe this movie will succeed, maybe it won't, but there's certainly not any MORE guarantee that a spot-on translation of Hama's comics would be more successful, nor that a "gritty and real" G.I. Joe would have the kind of universal appeal you're talking about. Quote:
Like I said, I don't think it's ok to judge a film based on trailers or plot details. Neither one really gives you the essence of the movie nor do they paint the full picture.
I didn't say anything about going to see every movie just so I could form an opinion. That's a little ridiculous. If I don't see a movie, I don't see it, and therefore cannot form a valid opinion about it. If I have an interest in seeing a movie, I'll see it. Then I can give my opinion. You're confusing seeing / not seeing a movie based on unsubstantiated opinions with seeing / not seeing a movie based on interest in the subject. Now, I could read a review on a movie that someone has already seen, and that might influence my decision whether or not to go. But, that's because it's someone's opinion who has seen the entire film and therefore holds substantially more credibility than someone giving their opinion of an entire movie based on less than a minute of trailer footage. As far as Hasbro's execs, they do have common sense. That's usually why they're in the position they're in. Although you might hear a lot of crap about CEO's on the news, there are exponentially more execs who are successful than there are those who are incompetent. Though Hasbro has taken a loss in the economy, they've done very well despite everything. Quote:
More accurately, they're still making a profit in this economy, just not as big a profit as the same time last year (which is no surprise, as last year at this time they were still riding high on Transformers-mania). For comparison, their chief competitor (Mattel) lost $50 million dollars in the last quarter. Interestingly enough, Hasbro's current CEO has won awards and generally been lauded as one of the best in the business over the past couple or three years.
But that's neither here nor there for the movie, really. Hasbro's CEOs have little to do with that. It's Paramount executives that are mostly controlling the film. They're currently busy counting the money from Star Trek. *Yawn* Yes, I think that every indication is that ROC is mecha- lame. Not because I want it to be lame, far from it. It's just that I have eyes and it looks real lame, with sad on top. And yes, I think that I, Captain Average, could produce a more palatable GIJoe film with a camcorder and volunteers from the local Army Surplus store. And I don't refer to "Electricians, accountants, interns, food service, costumers, model makers" when I say clowns. Let me be clear- it is the creative forces behind ROC I refer to as clowns. This includes but is not necessarily limited to, the director and writers. Regarding execs, I don't know any from Hasbro specifically, but I reserve the right to generalize. I do work with many corporate execs of various levels and I don't need a study to tell me what I've learned from 20 years in business- some folks get where they are because they look pretty in a suit and don't burn the house down when daddy's out. Rising through corporate ranks does not equal starting and building a business. I would chose the average UPS delivery guy over the average Corporate Exec in tag- team Double Jeopardy any day of the week. Finally, I thinks it's fun to argue and stir it up over what we think the movie looks like. It's fun or we wouldn't take the time out of our lives to crank out witty retorts. So while I'll argue and defend my opinions, I feel no need to defend how I base my judgements. That is my right alone. Insisting my basis of judgment itself "isn't OK" is the red, white and blue example of arrogance that I see in this thread. P.S. I promise I won't watch ROC unless a freind brings the Blu-ray*** to my home, turns it on, and I am too exausted from arguing with strangers on message boards all day to get out of my recliner or at least turn away. Later! ***It would have to be Blu-ray- fuzzy, archaic DVD's give me headaches. Aren't those only still used in places 8 years behind us, like, Canada?

Gonna say since school will be out, it opens strong, a little lower than star trek, but with a larger drop, since trek has gotten such great responses.
It won't be the monster transformers was. It doesn't have the iconic visuals that grab the nostalgic or casual fan. Transformers wasn't visually "accurate" either, but a car that turns into a robot automatically does the job. Even Snake Eyes jumping into your face just cannot compare to that. I think ads closer to the release can capture some of this with some shots of destro's iconic silver mug, and some audio of Cobra Commanders voice. Plus it's in a strange position of kind of being a military film, but likely very low on guns and violence...is it for kids? Is it not? But, then again, Wolverine did extremely well, and it wasn't very well received(I found it way better than I expected) and I don't recall seeing a drop of blood among all the slashing claws! Name alone - some success. I hope it does well, and isn't considered a failure just for not doing as well as the several other big summer films do. As far as the casual adult viewers, during the joe preview before trek, there was no audience reaction whatsoever, aside from one guy who loudly said "GAY!" at the end. |
