The two movies were pretty horrible so I’m all for giving Netflix a whack at it. Last thing the brand needs is another terrible film. However, I’m not sure we’d get any new toys for just a Netflix series.

Would a Netflix project be BETTER? That's debatable. Yet seeing a new GI Joe series or movie surface on Netflix is more possible. Especially when you consider the sci-fi junk that Netflix has picked up in the past year or so.

There are plenty of Netflix Marvel toys from Hasbro, Funko, Diamond Select, Mezco Toyz, and Hot Toys.

To note, Netflix doesn't really make many shows themselves, and also they only fund a portion of a production as to get exclusive rights to it. Typically another company has to step forward with a show proposal and also be willing to pay for part of the production. Depending on how well the show/movie does, this gives power to get Netflix to invest more money into making more, better, or longer shows/movies. MST3K for example recently went into this, as they are doing a new season but it's going to be shorter than the last, and that Netflix only covers about half the budget, the rest they have to fund themselves
But Netflix really is not gonna just out of the blue make GI Joe happen because they want to. Hasbro would need to find someone, get a pitch of a new cartoon or tv show, and get it in front of Netflix to try and get it going. Hulu and Amazon also work in similar fashion. The window closed five years ago. Resolute was great, but it was no Samurai Jack or Young Justice. If Hasbro wants an adult Joe, which I'd welcome, they have to start over. |

A movie isn’t a good platform, because GI Joe is primarily about characters. And awesome vehicles. A movie is too short on time to get into the nitty gritty of what makes GI Joe so great. A tv series - cartoon or live action - is a far better place to develop and progress the brand.

You're right. Smart writing and it could work. I love NCIS, and why I can't say. Acting isn't the best, but you fall in love with the characters and you get a hit. NCIS has been on TV for like 18 years. 30 episodes a year. 24 lasted what like 8 or 9 years?
