Don't confuse moral right and wrong here, I'm not saying that, I'm just saying it was dumb of them. They could have satisfied the old-school fans and brought in new fans. They didn't have to alienate us to bring glory back to GI Joe. All of which I consider spin-offs, not really GI Joe. ARAH is GI Joe, atleast to the common man. Most people don't have a clue what Sgt Savage, Extreme, or S6 is, but almost any 80s kid can tell you what GI Joe is, and they will, 99% of the time, be talking about ARAH. That's my point.

And what does an '80s kid knowing what RAH is mean? Not much.
Anyone ever stop and think that Hasbro is also trying to get away from the RAH? I mean, if I was them, I'd be ready for some new concepts. The 25th line was great, but what did it really add to the franchise? Nothing. It was done for nostaglia and that was it. When it shifted to the Modern Era we started getting some new concepts into the line: Cobra Diver, Bazooka Trooper, Para-Viper. Me personally, I love those figures even more then Modern Era styling of my favorites (which are awesome but...). So what's wrong with a new idea? And how does doing a new concept poop on ARAH? They aren't connected. Now if Resolute had sucked eggs, then that would have been pooping on ARAH because it was a direct remodernization of the RAH. RoC is a new spin-off, if you will.

and TWO: grow the brand and its audience...with their new ideas. those two aren't mutually exclusive. it is those two things combined that is the motivation. sure, they could have grown the brand and its audience with a RAH movie, but than they wouldn't get to try their own ideas out. Quote:

that being said, we've had this argument before (an entire thread that reach 8 pages I think on this semantical issue - I think that is what it would be), and Derek has already admitted he means G.I .Joe to him, not G.I. Joe as an existing entity. I'm only saying this so the thread doesn't revolve around that technicality and we rehash that. |

Remember that the people in Hasbro now aren't the same ones that were making Joe back in the 80s. These people, like Gunslinger said, have their own ideas.
If you went into a job, would you want to be stuck doing the same concepts that the people 20+ years before you created? No, you want to do your own thing, or take that concept and make something new from it. Ask any comic book writer why they want to write X-Men or Superman or one of those "icons". They want to put their own spin onto a classic idea. Some succeed and some fail. That's the way of things. But noone ever stays stuck to the same concept.

New Ideas are fine, just don't go about screwing it up and making it totally out of line- Addressed and handled perfectly by Team Resolute, take some notes. Yes ROC is a spin off, and that is all it will ever be and doomed as much, and that is why it disappoints me so greatly, it could have been ground breaking if someone stopped to look at it from an ARAH stand point, but in the end and all the millions wasted, this what we will get. I hope there is a sequal and is done correctly by someone totally different, but this anchor will drag the ship to bottom and the rest of us with it.... |

I've been saying forever, I LOVE the 25th line. It was nice and like Troynos said, nostalgic! I'm thankful for it. You are right, it wasn't until the Modern Era we started seeing nice takes and additions of new people. These where the tweaks I loved similar to JvsC, ST, and VvV Old characters we loved, with new takes, and at times new people. In SpyTroops, Barrel Roll, and Bomb Strike where hits. I liked the new Dreadknok (I think Burnout was his name.) All because Hasbro tried to reach a new audience and still attempted to cater to us. I think they got closer with the 25th then that era but all the same.
I wasn't a fan of S6. But they tried. They are doing a good enough job at trying to reboot this franchise through comics, and Resolute, and even yes, R.O.C. There will come a point when we will have to except the changes, or let go. I stayed through the 80's into the Battle Corps and dropped at Star Brigade and Mega Marines. Then cam back for J vs C to now. (LOL Note I skipped EVERYTHING S6.) But I I'll stay faithful until they get too silly, and Then I'll move on to something else. Maybe back to Video Games, who knows. |

I've got an idea. Maybe Hasbro can expand the GI Joe brand beyond the realm of military toys. Maybe we can have GI Joe Nascar force. Nascar has become quite popular, and to cash in it only makes since for GI Joe to stop wasting their time with "Perpetrators of man-made distasters" and start racing cars! Come on Hasbro, get with the times!
