If recent history is any indication:
No, Hasbro won't actively create new characters, and if they do, fans will largely forget about them in a couple years in favor of continuing to complain some obscure ARAH figure hasn't been made or remade. Paramount might introduce "new characters", we saw Mouse (though I view him as a movie "Crosshair" myself). But the entire point in using existing character names is to use nostalgia and familiarity to drive interest. Until something changes at Hasbro, I do NOT expect much original anything for quite a while yet.

Sgt. Stone and Mouse were original characters.

Wasn't stone from sigma 6 and mouse from action force or something?
Personally I'm all for new characters, but I know some are only happy with old school guys. |

I wish they would create more new characters.
As a kid it was the new characters that drove the brand. Every year we would get 20 or so new characters. That was what made it exciting for me. It wasn't until the 4th year we got Snake-Eyes the second time (Not counting vehicle drivers who were just repaints;Grunt, Clutch and Grand-Slam) but by then there was a new stock of kids who probably missed him. But I remeber seeing Snake-Eyes V1 in stores all through 83 and 84. Back then you only got one wave for the whole year. So you had time to get all the figures. Christmas. Birthday and then maybe save your allowance for the last few you missed.

There were two different Lt. Stones in Sigma 6 and Extreme. ROC Mouse is a different character than Sgt. Savage Mouse. Kind of like how Navajo Airborne and Sky Patrol Airborne are different characters.

Retaliation Airborne, who may or may not have any similarities to those prior versions :p
Realistically, "new characters" is a loaded term. Is he referring to entirely new character concepts (like Shadow Tracker, or Speed Metal), or new interpretations of old character concepts (30th/Renegades Airtight, or even movie Cobra Commander)? Is a name reuse automatically a new character, or simply a new version of an old character? (While common in Transformers, Joe fans REALLY seem to have issues when Hasbro opts to reuse non-core names in GI Joe)
