Okay, I'm not going to bother putting a "spoiler alert" on this because everyone's probably seen the movie by now, and even if you didn't, this isn't going to give anything away in terms of the story or anything like that.
Now, first off, I really, really liked Retaliation. I had some very minor issues throughout, which I won't get into, but I thoroughly enjoyed it overall. My one big problem with this film, however, was right at the very end, when Roadblock gets his little "present" from the General. Is anyone with me on this? Okay, first off, I noticed before, when he was eyeing that pistol in the General's home and about to pick it up - wtf was he doing grabbing it from the trigger like that? Rule #1 about gun safety - always assume it's loaded, i.e. don't pick it up by putting your finger directly on the trigger!!! Cut to the end. Yeah, he picks it up the same way, wtf... and then proceeds to SHOOT IT IN THE AIR without warning at a friggin' state remembrance service/medal parade IN THE PRESENCE OF THE PRESIDENT who would have been, of course, surrounded by Secret Service agents. Yeah, I know it's fiction, but even fiction has to take place within the boundaries of realistic character behaviour. Did they really not have a military advisor or do enough character research (and this includes the actors) to realize that no professional soldier would have EVER done a thing... And assuming they did, but it was ignored for the sake of "coolness"... did anyone actually think that was some kind of cool ending whatsoever? Anyway, I had to get my only real nitpick off my chest. I've kind of avoided the movie talk for the most part, so I don't know if any of you - particularly those, like me, who work with weapons or else use them on a fairly routine basis. Please don't think I'm "fan-raging" here. I'm just really big on safety when it comes to firearms, so this really bothered me.

I'm not even a gun or military enthusiast (beyond G.I.joe) and I noticed the way he grabbed the gun just looked wrong to me.
As for the end, honestly by that time I didn't care anymore. What's one *more* dumb thing in the film going to hurt? -c

I just found this whole thing at the end to be jarring, to say the least.

Usually they get advisors, like Dale Dye, who teach them how to handle them properly and act like a soldier, and what not. Pretty sure he didn't work on Retaliation but they must have had someone... And actors take this more seriously than you might think. I actually had an extra ask me how to salute once, when they were filming a made-for-tv movie in BC once on the base I was at (starring Jennifer Love Hewitt and Lou Diamond Phillips, apparently!). Kind of took me off guard, but I appreciated that she cared about realism.

I thought it was weird as well. I feel it would have made a lot more sense in a post-funeral scene at the new PIT or something. It would also have satisfied a little bit of the fanboy in me.
As for Lou Diamond Phillips, does anyone else think he could be really great as Airborne if they were to make the character a little older? I would love to see that! |

I noticed it, didn't have an issue with in the house but the end it pretty stupid. In real life, somebody would have tackled the president and then would have blown the shooter away.
Anyways, thought I would share this.... Back in 2007, I was at Silverflag Alpha, NV pre-deployment training, (I was a security forces (military police) member in the Air Force) and we had Terrance Howard (rhodes, Iron man 1) come out to see the ins and outs of a military convoy. I was the SAW gunner in the rear truck, where he sat passenger to view us getting ambushed and how we reacted. I thought it was really cool how interested he was and how down to earth he is. He smokes and jokes with the rest of us. When I watched the movie in the theaters, it was pretty badass to see the movie start with a security forces convoy getting destroyed....I like to think we had a part in that.
