We might be a small percentage, but we're tho ones who see the movie two or three times, if its good. There releasing this movie on the strength of the name only to change the details to get a bigger audience. Now that may be smart, but its not a novel idea. It was done with Constatine. They changed his accent to appeal to a broader audience and that sunk the ship. I'm all for G.I.Joe, as a movie to make a lot of money, even with its generous changes. I want it succeed. On that note, I'm not here to bash the filmakers or the people who seem to care little of the property, cuz at the end of the day, if it don't make dollars it don't make sense.

Really? Name them. Specifically those that weren't wrapped up with other films when G.I. Joe was filming, and would likely be interested in directing a movie based on an 80's toy property.
So why do you automatically assume one of these "young and new" directors would want to do a "Kids video game/cartoon" movie, which is exactly what G.I. Joe was going to be no matter how you sliced it? Sorry, but when people start spouting off at the mouth about "hackjobs"and whining about a director that on-paper looks perfectly well-suited for G.I. Joe, it sounds a lot more to me like they're really saying "How dare Paramount not hire ME to write and direct the "perfect" Joe movie!" The cast all this vitriol at the director but offer no real alternatives whatsoever. Or offer interpretations of G.I. Joe that are every bit as "different" from RAH Joe as this movie already appears to be, just in a different direction (IE the "I want a gritty, realistic military action movie!" crowd). i can't assume that any director would want to direct a joe or kids' cartoon movie anymore than i could expect ANYONE to want to do one. i never said "I" wanted to direct the film.....and, yes i think bay, sommers, and w.anderson are all hacks at what they do. i am personally NOT a fan of their films or their techniques (uber shakey camera, gratuitous explosions, and overused "bullet time" effects) but i am a fan of a lot of the properties they get to make crappy movies about(AvP, transformers, resident evil, joe). of all the remarks and comments i've made on this board (and others as well) about my opinions on the direction of the script and film....i've never once said how "I" think it should be made into a R rated, realistic, gritty, bloody, action war movie. it's a f**king kids' comicbook for christsakes (unlike the AvP comic series, which was very much R rated). i LOVE the eifel tower being eaten up....VERY 80s Joe. the could have made the movie like the episodes "sattelite down" or "cobrathon" from the original series, and as long as the characters weren't all changed about and in love with the baroness because they used to be engaged or whatever, it'd be a fun film and still very joe.

The problem is there is a automatic built-in audience, and I am not just talking about us hardcore guys. There are people that grew up with the Joe of the 80's that still have a love for it when it is mentioned. That is the automatic built-in audience and judging from the Super Bowl Party I was at when the trailer played Paramount is alienating them too.

People defend the Bots in TF saying the old Blocky bots wouldn't work on the big screen. BS.....it can work if you give it a damn good story. Just because one Directer with an Ego says in wont work doesnt mean it Cant/Wont work. You dont have to change something that worked....once you get word of mouth out and get those people who didn't read or watch GI Joe/TF...once you get them hooked they will come. Batman (Athough a few here will argue this (And I don't feel like arguing about it)) stayed mostly true to the comics.....some liberties were taken but that was Batman on the big screen. Ironman stayed True to the comics although certain liberties were taken again. It was in itself taken from the comics and again a few will argue that they changed it somewhat. I just feel TF and Joe could have been done different.....I liked TF and Im sorta stoked for Joe, but they coud have done stuff different.... You need people who care to be on these movies.... Cant wait fr Watchmen and although its a new ending I have Faith in Zack.....hes a comics fan.... Last edited by spacemonkeymafia; 03-02-2009 at 06:07 PM.. |

I know some of us fans desperately want to believe this movie will be a horrible failure. But the grim (for them) reality is that it probably won't be. It'll marketed all to heck, and be one of the biggest movies of the summer. Particularly since the summer is already thin on "big" movies (particularly compared to last year) and so far for the year movie ticket sales have been up by 17% despite (or it's believed because of) the crappy economy. It was the best January in history for Hollywood. |

i don't want this movie to fail. i want it to succeed for my own selfish reasons of wanting them to continue with the 25th ann line of figures. i don't want to have to drop $50+ for a 7 pack of figures once every six months. i need to finish my wall of single carded figs...and big box packs are breaking up the aesthetics.
i have no doubts that this film will do exceptionally well for the first weekend it is out. i also have no doubts that there will be NO reviews available for this film until after said opening weekend. i also have no doubts that i will not enjoy the film based on what has been presented to me, thus far. a lot of us "h8ters" actually hope the film does really well. just because we don't like it, doesn't mean we're all gathering in the mid-west during the summer solstice to conduct a voodoo ritual to ensure that the film fails. we just think it could have been done truer to RAH with less hollywood cheese and less wayans...and with a little more "terrorist" and more cannon worthy mythos.
