The only thing I remember about Ripcord's storyline was that he was in love with a balloon-selling bear dressing girl named Candy who just happened to be the daughter of a Crimson Guard commander. When did he get such a huge promotion?
Oh, I forgot, he also infiltrated Cobra by disguising himself as Zartan (accidentally?). If that wasn't worth having him replace Duke, Hawk, or Flint, I don't know what is.

Who would have thought Tom Hanks could have pulled as many Oscars he did when they first saw him in Bossism Buddies, Splash and Big?
I don't care if they change the color of Ripcord's skin. Not a big deal, unless they combine such a change with an omission of Stalker, a character whose presence is pretty much demanded in this film. Putting Ripcord in a leadership role? That would be pointless, so I doubt the report as a whole. |

Ok
The 10 years in the future...and why I like it... When RAH started the majority of the Characters had experience in Vietnam and various "Brush wars" that had taken place in the late 60's and early 70's, which was...10 years prior. So since this a "New Continuity" as someone stated, then I like the fact that they are going to keep the formula a bit, I also like that they can remove themselves from being forced to either Flag Wave or Flag Burn depending on their political leanings based on the current world situation. The majority of the younger group can have cut their teeth during the current war on Terror, the old hands could have been around since Desert Storm or Mogadishu or Bosnia... That is if the writers give a rip about Joe lore and actual history. If Ripcord is the leader, then I'd guess not. |

I sent out a few E-mails to get confirmation on this subject. Hopefully I hear back soon so we can get it right!
I hold no stock in Wayans being the leader of G.I. Joe. So everybody needs to calm down Duke is the leader of G.I. Joe in the movie.

Odd casting if true....I guess they will re-cast Snake-Eyes with Emanuel Lewis aka Webster, Jackie Chan as Gung-Ho, Curt Russel as Roadblock, Teri Hatcher as Hawk, Mr. T as Sgt Slaughter, Pee-wee Herman as Stormshadow, and The Rock as the Baroness.
Oh well....it looks more and more like a DVD rental. |

Wayans.... Ripcord?........Who's hitting the bong in Hollywood? Next thing we'll see Kevin smith and Jason Mewes as Alpine and Bazooka!
I get the idea that The story is set a decade into the future, but Wayans could have played as the guy from Sky Patrol (Hasbro has Executive rights on this project), so While I am more tempted to dismiss this news, I will be totally pissed if Ripcord is placed into command. |

You know another problem I kind of have with this film is that some of the actors are a little too young. I mean where is your seasoned veterans? Wasn't the original concept of the GI Joe team to be a mix of experienced soldiers and top new recruits? Everybody I see so far looks a little green. I mean Ray Park is spot on but I had in mind people like Neal McDonough as Duke and Stone Cold Steve Austin as Gung Ho. Or better yet Eammon Walker as Stalker. I know there are still chances to cast these people but I just don't see this being the direction they are going.

I DID see an interesting story about the new J.J. Abrams Star Trek Movie, but that's another type of geeking altogether. I just had a good laugh about that one! As for Ripcord, he's a good Grunt type character. I wouldn't mind if he was black. I think that it would be seriously cliche to make the Joe team leader suddenly another race after Marvel's turning Nick Fury into Samuel L. Jackson, but it's not as important to the character as the way they are presented. Also, someone said that Ripcord got left out of Spy Troops. I have 4 packages that say Spy Troops HALO Jumper on them that call shennanigans. Good point though. Anyone who read the first 50 issues of Joe knows that Ripcord is pretty awesome. Maybe he'll be the resident noob on the team. As for the various sources, IMDB is like a wiki, some of the info is accurate and some is speculation. I dunno how many of the rest of you have been to Don Murphy's message board, or if any of you were there to follow the TF movie's production, but it was QUITE an enlightening experience. Variety can be right, or wrong. Most places seem to have reported on the first few drafts and leaks, but nothing concrete. Someone else said that Brian Goldner is probably heavily involved and I believe that to be true. He was kind enough to stop by the DM forums (after I needled him a bit) and it seems to me that Hasbro got all of the trial and error of Hollywood worked out and that they will be working to make Joe much more accurate in relation to the source material. Hey, at least the Autobots in the movie acted like themselves, but I will NEVER forgive Hasbro for what they let Michael Bay do to Megatron and Starscream. They looked cool, but they belonged in another movie altogether. I really want to hear Hama's name associated with this project again.

Maybe it is a typo. Maybe it's supposed to be halo leader or some kind of infantry leader.

I pray this is gonna change. Topher Grace was in talks to play that role and I'd much rather see him in it.
