For those who read the novelization: Which are the differences between it and the movie? The only one that I know of is the Baroness telling Duke that, even tough she was under control of the Nanomites, she enjoyed doing what she did. Anything else?
Thanks. |

They cut the whole scene out at the beginning where Destro and Hawk have the conversation about, "What did you say your unit was called?" "I didn't." This is weird because that scene was in the first trailers, and it also changed the part where Zartan kills Cover Girl. Movie: "Hello, sweetheart!" Book: "I TOLD you I'd see you again."
They also failed to include Storm Shadow telling Snake Eyes that he didn't kill the Hard Master in the last flashback. Made it look like he actually did it. I know there's more, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. |

In the novelization, the nanomites are irremovable from the Baroness due to the encryption being hard to break, but in the film they obviously changed it to say that they COULD take them out but it would take time. I think that they originally had filmed it like the novel, because there's a part in one of the tv spots where duke says "Then I know what I've got to do" which in the novel takes place just after he's told that only the one who put the nanomites in the Baroness can take them out. In the finished version of the film they cut away from duke before he says that line.
I could be wrong, but it seems that at times in the film they've actually dubbed in different lines than what was originally said... for instance when the doctor says "This has only just begun"... that line was originally said by the Baroness and according to the novelization it takes place at the end of the film when the Baroness is imprisoned. In the film, the doctor is heard saying it as he is imprisoned and since you can't ACTUALLY see the doctor's mouth when he speaks, I think that it was dubbed in after. Also, because this line was said by the Baroness in the TV spots... I think this also supports the idea that the ending with the Baroness was edited differently then first intended. Her character seems to be softened down a bit at the end of the film from what we've read in the novelization. I don't know where they intend to go with her character in the possible sequel, but they've at least made is seem as though her character is genuinely interested in rehabilitation... whether that sticks or not is something we'll have to wait to see. WOW... now I feel like a real nerd... Am I dissecting it too much??? Last edited by Solace247; 08-12-2009 at 06:53 PM.. Reason: Clarifying some of the differences. |

They also changed the ending of the SE/SS fight in the novel. In the movie SE stabbed SS in the chest, I don't think he did that in the novel.
They also changed up Rex a little. In the novel they gave more hints at his being unbalanced when a soldier. Also in the novel, Ripcord was flirting with 3 women when Duke proposed marriage.

In the novel, Scarlett is mentioned as being a Canadian, while in the film, there isn't any mention of her nationality.
In the novel, Cobra Commander and Destro get away, but are captured in the movie. The elevator sequence in the Pit where Gen. Hawk is talking about G.I. Joe seems longer in the novel than in the movie. Also, "Go JOEs" is used in the novel, as is "Yo JOEs". When Team Alpha gets on to the Howler at the end, they don't say "Yo Joe!" in the movie, but in the novel, they do. No mention of G.I. Joe moving to a new, more secure base in the movie. |

No Flagg in the novel.
I liked the novel ending so much more. CC and Destro get away, Baroness is evil. Wasn't the Joe sub destroyed in the novel?

At least in the comic (dunno if it's the same for the novel), the first time the Joes show up and kick ass plays out differently than it did in the movie.
The medic at the end is referred to as "Lifeline" in the novel, but is not mentioned as such in the actual movie. |

I havent read the novel but in the script SE and SS are young adults when the hardmaster is killed - i was looking forward to seeing Ray Park and Lee byung hun playing younger versions of themselves and was hoping to see SS in a more traditional white ninja garb - that was my only real gripe with the movie...:(
