I wanted to put up a poll to get an idea of how people really feel about the included weapons that really shoot (WTS) with the new movie toys. I know many of you hate them, but I wanted to know how badly. So here is my question… Do you hate shooting weapons?

looks like you forgot the poll.
i could care less about shooting weapons. sure they look kind of goofy, but if the figure i'm buying is cool enough, then who cares. I don't have to use it. and it doesn't take anymore effort to not pose him with it. Really how many of us have EVER boughten a figure with stupid accesories, ALL OF US. and what'd you all do, kept the fig, and tossed the accesories in a drawer. one gun should not in any way make or break a toy. if it does you're in the wrong hobby.

I like missile launchers that shoot. But then again, toys are fun to play with not just to display, customize, and make dios with.

The BAT from the Arise Serpentor DVD pack comes with a missile shooter and it's an awesome figure. If you don't like the missle shooter..............throw it away........or don't buy the toy. Shit, it's nothing to get that hung up over.

Don't care if it comes with or without. If the figure is hot, i'm on it.

Frankly I couldn't care less. The only thing I care about is that the figures themselves retain full articulation and don't have a)limbs that shoot, or b)spring-loaded articulation.
Most of the figures suck anyway, but some are pretty generically good (Duke), and alot are great potential custom fodder.

I'm sure kids like them, but I think it just kind of "de-values" the whole package initially.
I mean seeing the oversized weapons packed in with the figures, it just looks really cheap to me. I don't know what it is, but they just look really junky, and like they'd be something that would end up at big lots or family dollar. |

I'd MUCH rather have some more accessories than a smegging oversized missile-shooter.
Take for example the Star Wars figures. Some of them have a box of 'Clone Gear.' It's a little cardboard box filled with various weapons. It's great for customizing and equipping your armies, much more fun than a spring-loaded eyesore.

I think that oversized, spring-loaded weapons that shoot darts or plastic projectiles detract from the action figure aesthetic but if the figure itself is phenomenal, I will still buy it. However, too many figures with these weapons can change my mind about the collection as a whole. I think the classic GI Joe rapidly declined with the introduction of these gimicks along with the bright neon colors and improbable futuristic vehicles. Everything has to start with solid character development--that and only that can draw you into the story or fantasy. Not shooting projectiles or talking battle packs or riduculous character concepts like Cap Grid-Iron, who wears a football helmet and throws football-shaped grenades.
The corporate mentalitiy is that you must constantly reinvent, but sometimes sticking with what works and keeping it simple are the wisest choices. |
