I've heard complaints upon complaints about how the movie apparently botched known G.I. Joe costumes to come up with new futuristic looking ones.
At first I saw the trailer and thought, yeah I can see where they're coming with that. And then something in the back of my head went, "Uh, wait a minute. Better confirm that." So I went online and looked up "G.I. Joe toy history". Just as I thought, the history of Joe goes back to the 60's and definitely shows an evolution. The costumes change. Often quite drastically. Then I clicked on the page that shows 2000 to present. Saw something interesting. Sigma Six. Um... wow, these toys look a lot like the ones in movie, but they came out in 2005. So... how is it possible that there exists... well... ANY fan would even think about criticizing the movie saying, "AAAAAAh! They changed the costumes! OH NO! This movie ruined my life! Goodbye cruel world!!!" (yes, that's far fetched) when we have a history of Joe that has always been changing the costumes and then Sigma Six actually has costumes tat looke a lot like the movie? How? Answer me this. It boggles the mind. |

Also.. if you will notice, the figures shrunk since the 60's
Conspiracy I say!

because most people complaining about the costumes had the same complaints with Sigma 6 and the same ridiculous it's not G.I. Joe argument.

The reason so many fans are against it are that they look NOTHING like the franchise they are based on the 1982-1994 and 2000-2008 versions of the classic G.I. Joe characters.
Sigma Six may have had similar costumes to the movie, but that line utterly and completely BOMBED! collectors hated it, and it took almost a year after the line finished for the remnants to sell off. EDIT: by contrast the movie actually looks good. It isn't the classic version of Joe I had hoped for, but it looks like the plot is good, so I can look past minor casting and costuming problems. Besides if this movie does well, its an origins story so they may change to classic outfits for the sequels. |

says who? I don't think you can back that statement up with any collection of facts for it to be even remotely taken seriously. are you more interested in making things up to defend your position or having an honest discourse on the topic?

I guess my thing is, the toys show an obvious change in evotion.
Honestly though, as much as I liked the cartoons, the comics, and the toys, I have trouble seeing how they would translate to live action. They're just... too colorful. Look at "Street Fighter" the original movie. That movie actually got the costumes right, unfortunately it was also one of the things that made the movie suck so bad. |

I think S6's major problem was the price point and that the scale of the figs didn't allow a clean set of full sized vehicles to be incorporated. Thereby, they ended up having to create the oversized and the mini's, which was meh. Both the vehicles and the full sized figs were cool, just not compatible. And the big figs were just too pricey to collect. That's what kept me out. I thought the concepts were good, just not well enough thought out for a full line to succeed. Had they been created at 3-3/4" from the start, I think they'd be another line moving forward along with the 25th/ME, and the movie.
I have no problem with the modernization/futurization of Joe. I think that is some of the coolest stuff, especially when it incorporates actual military technology that is on the horizon (like the powersuits). |
