Very nice indeed.
I was NOT expecting to be so excited about the Teaser Trailer. But I´m sure glad I loved every second of it. I so hope this movie to be a excellent blockbuster. I felt like a teenager again watching the trailer. :| |

Well... that didn't change any of my first impressions.
I have no issue with the director. I don't mind it being a "dumb" summer action movie. I love some of the cast (Snake Eyes, Baroness, Hawk, Scarlett, Storm Shadow). I think the SFX look just fine, and the action looks exciting. But I have two main issues with it: The biggest issue for me is that I think the costumes (with the exception of SE and Baroness) are complete and utter CRAP. Just look at that shot of all the Joes walking in a line. Cover their heads. Who's who? I have no idea! They've all been completely stripped of their individuality (look-wise, of course). Same for the power suits. Why on Earth would anyone want to buy toys of these things??? Every figure will be wearing the same outfit, with a differant head sculpt. The whole thing that made GI Joe so fun was their individuality and the way they each had their own getup that was themed to who they were. Is it militarily accurate? Hell no! But again, that's not the point. I understand not all of the costumes could possible be pulled off in live action without them looking like the new millenium's village people. But they could have just toned them down a bit and kept their individuality. Secondly, some of the cast is completely wrong. Primarily Marlon Wayons. But Breaker also looks very weak and out of character. And while I like Eccelston, I don't think he has the physical presence to pull off Destro. I will definitely see the movie, and I expect to enjoy it on some level. However, I pretty much hate the look of most of the designs I've seen. I have concerns that Hasbro has really blown it and the toyline is going to bomb. I just can't imagine any kid wanting to collect 25 black outfitted figures that are nearly identical. I guess that would be good for me, as they would likely refocus back to doing the figures I want to see, but I really hoped Hasbro would find a way to make this movie (and toyline) successful with both myself and the general public. I thought Transformers was handled with a lot of respect (granted, I was never a huge Transformers fan so I had much less to lose). Some of the comedy was hokey, but the whole concept is hokey (just like Joe). But the designs retained much of the spirit of the originals, and the changes made seemed much more appropriate. |

For me,
I liked Transformers. & I'm liking Transformers 2. But Rise of Cobra hasn't exactly won me over yet. If I didn't go on the internet & look at all the posters with the characters names, I never would have known who they were supposed to be in the trailer. Except for Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, & Baroness. My big gripe about the movie before I saw the trailer was that The costumes didn't really look like GI Joe & nothing I was hearing about the movie sounded like GI Joe. & Everything I heard about the movie was actually in the trailer. So all the internet GI Joe news was true. Well after the trailer, it looked further distant from Joes. The trailer looked less like GI Joe. The all black suits, which is there normal Joe movie uniforms, didn't look like anything GI Joe. But I move on anway. Then the trailer shows the power suits. All black & silver cyborg suits with silver helmets. That looks even less like GI Joe, it looks like Judge Dredd or Robo Cop. The power suit thing isn't even a GI Joe thing, Hollywood just made it up & called it GI Joe. Now you take the all black armor uniforms & add the power suits wit helmets, now this isn't looking anything like GI Joe at all. It doesn't sound like GI Joe either. If I were told that there was going to be a live action movie of GI Joe, I would never imagine power suits or the other stuff. Now I can tell who Storm Shadow is, but his costume doesn't look like they put much effort into it. He's just a normal white ninja, nothing thrilling about it. If you wonder what more I might want. Well, Shadow's design, the white cloak, his mask, they all look generic. Other than just being a ninja in white clothes in a movie called GI Joe, Shadow don't look much like Storm Shadow. Miller is a pretty girl as Baroness, but thats not going to get me to the theature. Baroness' costume looks alright, but just only alright. Something just comes off as corny for me. She looks like Baroness alright, but her costume looks like little effort too. So now Destro, which in a live action movie I'd be ok with this, but if you have this & other stuff added to it, my tolerance starts to go down. Destro is just a guy in a suit. Later he uses his mask, but until that point, he's just a guy in a suit. I don't like Snake Eyes' costume. While he's moving around, like jumping over cars, he looks fine because you can't really get a close up look of him. But when Snake Eyes is up close, he looks stupid. He has lips on his mask, & I may have seen a nose too, not sure. The entire head looks like a mannequin head. It looks so awful. His upper body has abs & stuff. Then after that he's just wearing black slacks like I'm wearing right now. I've seen action shots, during shooting, of Snake Eyes & it looked dumb. They pulled a 90's Batman with Snake Eyes' costume. The trailer only offered me fast CGI action spots, a pretty Baroness in a dress or her suit, a few old action movie phrases with the traditional action poses, & just your average action movie stuff. If your asking what more could there be? Then I'll answer you. Snake Eyes shouldn't be ugly to the point as to wear I don't want to look at him. Seeing the Joes should remind me of Joes, not make me think, "what is this?" Seeing the Joes in their all black armor uniforms, which will be what they wear for most the movie, & then walk around in black & silver power suits with helmets for I'm not sure how long, will not make me think GI Joe at all. I'm going to think they look like Robo Cop. I'm not getting a GI Joe vibe here at all, I'm getting a United Nations Universal Soilder, Judge Dredd, Robo Cop, futuristic cop movie vibe. This looks more like Resident Evil 2. This actually heavily reminds me of Star Ship Troopers. I didn't even like Star Ship Troopers. & The Joe characters with all their black suits & flying power suits & helmets, looks just like Star Ship Troopers. Movies like Jumper, that just focus on action sequences with fancy CGI don't appeal to me. & Since the GI Joe's trailer was 97% just fancy CGI action sequences, I'm not seeing much appeal. I just saw Underworld: Rise of The Lycans, it has plenty of action & CGI in it, it has story & everything else. & All with just around a small 35 Million dollar budget. So if they can create several where wolf battles with so little money, I ask why does GI Joe need 170 million for? Transformers 2 with all of its CGI characters is only 150 million. & GI Joe has literally no CGI characters so why 170 million? I hear alot of bashing about Transformers 1, but that movie rocked, it didn't fancy itslef with senseless action sequences, it just had fighting sequences between the robots. The Transformers weren't needlessly jumping through trains in slo-mo, jumping over cars to only land on another car so dramatically, or flying through the streets while doing cart wheels & back springs to dodge a missle. Whether you believe TF had a story or not, there was a story there. & Most importantly TF actually resembled & looked liked Transformers. The TF movie was what TF was supposed to be, transforming Autobots & human side kicks vs. transforming Decepticons. Prime was even voiced by his original 80's cartoon voice actor, Peter Cullen. So TF Movie had alot of old original TF in it. I dare you to say the same about this GI Joe movie! Take a look at only Heavy Duty, Scarlett, Ripcord, Duke, & Breaker in their all black outifts. & Can you tell me that resembles GI Joe? Aren't Duke & Scarlett main charcters? If a robot in the TF movie looked different like Ratchet for example, his robot form looked nothing like his comic form, but his vehicle was still an ambulence type vehicle. He was easily identified. & A good example would be Starscream, Starscream in the movie looks completely different. But he is still a jet & his robot form body structure is about the same too. With his wings sticking out the side of his back like a cape, I easily identified Starscream. Bumblebee & Optimus Prime were basically identical enough to their 80's originals, along with several Decepticons like Brawl & Blackout. The main characters stayed the same like Prime & Bumblebee, but Duke ain't nothing like Duke & Scarlett other than her long red hair has got nothing in common with Scarlett. Snake Eyes looks like an ugly cheap version of Snake Eyes. In conclusion, The Transformers 2 teaser trailer looked 10 times better than the GI Joe full trailer. I can name tons of movies that look cooler than Rise of Cobra, Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li & X-Men Origins: Wolverine look better than Joe. Average Joe: The Rise of Cobra's Crap If it wasn't supposed to be GI Joe & just some other action movie, maybe called "U.N. Freedom Fighters" or something, I might watch it & be entertained. But if you call it GI Joe, than I expect to see GI Joe, not some crappy version of GI Joe where you changed all the costumes & added some things that Joe's never had, like Power Ranger Robo Cop suits. |

The more i think about the Trailer, the more i'm feeling bad about the movie.
i'll start with the positive of what's there: I know most folks on here have done nothing but bi$#% about Marlon Wayons as Ripcord, but in his 2 second blip i though he had really good presence. and, even though cliche, i really liked the bit with Destro (or was that Zartan?) asking Hawk what he said his unit was called; "I didn't" ~ quaid had a nice gravitas to that bit. The Eiffel tower dropping was pretty jaw dropping in HD and had a nice 9-11 vibe without being totally inappropriate. now what i didn't like: #1 ~ i think it failed as a teaser/intro in that it did NOTHING to introduce the "Concept" of GIJoe to the viewer aside from implying it was a military unit (which really wasn't even implicitly stated) Transformers could totally get away with a 'moneyshot' teaser because it's a sequel to a movie that made a staggerign amount of money. #2 ~ it looked like a Superhero movie. I think this is how they are playing it and i personally feel it was a poor aesthetic decision that is probably going to be my biggest gripe with how it goes down. "Powersuits", ugh. Terminator: Salvation is almost looking more GIJoe at this point. #3. Now this is what TOTALLY turned me off and really made me wish they'd gone with a different director: almost every dang scene in that teaser felt cribbed from a different movie: The Car pulling up and the Baroness getting out felt like the opening shot from the Iron Man trailer ~ the powersuits running down the road on all 4s and crashing through the bus looked like Ironhide and Ratchet running down the road (the one is even flipping almost exactly like how Iron Hide did) and Prime and Megatron crashing through the building in Transformers ~ Snake Eyes running up and flipping over the car looked exactly like a shot from one of the Spider-Man movies ~ even that bit with Quaid i mention above, while played nice, felt "recycled" ~ not to mention the 'walking at the camera group shot' which looks like X-men (black suits, red head, dude w/ visor). That all jumped out at me on first glance, which i feel like was not a good sign. siiiggghh. I'll still probably catch it, the action does look cool and i'm almost morbidly curious at this point, but it's starting to feel like a car wreck. My bro-in-law who's 25 and basically completely unfamilier with the property thought it looked "hella cheesey" ( he loved the Transformer teasers and trailer) based soley on this teaser and reserving the right to change my opinion if later marketing improves it's image, but i'm comfortable saying now, while it most likely won't "bomb" (it's got enough slick action in there that i think it'll get out the summer popcorn crowd) i think it will underperform and they most likely will not get the franchise they are hoping for.

I really liked the teaser. The eiffel tower scene was right out of the cartoon. The tone of the film from the teaser appears to be more on par with the cartoon, which I think is a good thing. I'm glad it's not too realistic, since the 80's G.I.Joe is science fiction anyways.
I still don't like the black power suit crap, but I do realize that the concept has to be updated for today. I will miss the original character outfits, but I have a feeling we will see them to some degree in the film anyways. I must say I'm much more excited for this now, and again I like the Shipwreck movie sculpt. |

Problem is, the movie is not made for the Fanboys like us.
The studio execs couldn´t care less about that. It´s made for the averaje joe movie watcher and with those, it will probably score big bucks. Those details that only fans will apreciate the movie had, will not be taken into consideration, i´m pretty sure. So, being what it is, I enjoyed it immensely. |

I was reasonably impressed with the trailer. Of course I had very low expectations. Sure it won't be the Joe film I want it to be, but then again the cartoon wasn't either when it first came out. I wanted it all to be like the comics. I look forward to seeing it.

Guess I'll be odd man out....
I thought it sucked. I won't see this movie and I won't support it in any way. GI JOE are not super heroes. What are they supposed to be a cross between the X-Men and A-Team? Pathetic. I hope it tanks. |

I don't think that of the "haters" at all. I can certainly understand the disappointment of not getting the movie you preferred, and can certainly appreciate not liking the movie because it simply isn't good. what, to me, is a ridiculous argument is that it is bad simply because it wasn't what you preferred or expected, or because its a new idea. that's narrow-minded (not saying that is you, just addressing that reasoning which has been used by some).
