i know we cannot get every joe and cobra that all of us would like....if that were the case, then the answer to your question would be..."every character ever made..."
but i personally hope that one thing IS done......and before anyone decides to post a reply telling me i wont get it....i already know i wont. but here goes anyway... i want as many characters in this movie as possible...EVEN IF THAT MEANS THE FOLLOWING!! lets say there is an attack on the pit, there are fires everywhere........in the background we see Bar-B-Cue--in full gear---fighting the fire. no close ups, no dialogue...but no mistake its bar-b-cue. cobra commander gives a direct order to someone in the field...that order goes thru a televiper...again full gear...maybe three seconds of screen time one line of dialogue. beachhead, in full ranger gear, yelling at some joes at a training session as the camera pans left to right... footage montage, explaining what GI Joe is all about...how the team is strategically placed all over the globe for maximum effectives and deployment.......arctic..snow job.......jungles...recondo....deserts...dusty.... ..alpine....torpedo..................as many as possible in recognizable, accurate gear!!!! of course i want all characters in the forefront, but i REALLY want to see plenty of nods for us fans. i felt that Xmen really missed the boat with this... imagine a barroom scene. and in the background, completely shadowed, save for one gloved hand, protruding from a trenchcoat sleeve, flipping a playing card between his fingers. nothing to do with the movie's story, just there for the fans to sit back and say "oh cool!" ...my dream Last edited by Gung.Heaux; 12-26-2007 at 10:07 AM.. |

IMO, any references or cameos oriented at the fan should be subtle. I hate it when they let stuff like that that stand out too much. It takes away from the flow of the narrative.
As long as it is subtle, I'm all for it. Otherwise, it should be used to move the plot forward. Say, if Sgt. Slaughter were to show up, I wouldn't use him for a 5 second comic relief. That takes away from the film. This doesn't mean the film should be extremely serious. It can definitely have its sense of humor... but at the expense of what? that's what counts. Think of ALIENS. There's great chemistry between the marines and you actually laugh at their jokes and pranks. And there isn't any sort of stupid comic relief character like Turturro's Sector 7 agent from Transformers.
