honestly.....
this movie will stink. anything with a wayans brother in it is destined for the $5 bin at wal-mart. power armor? duke love the baroness? ripcord loves scarlet? scarlet isn'e involved with snake eyes? snake eyes isn't disfigured? snake eyes took a vow of silence because stormshadow killed hardmaster and NOT because he was in a helicopter accident that cost him his voice.........?? i could go on...but i won't. if you liked the transformers atrocity then you will love this pile of crap. i, personally, like NOTHING about this film. it has hollywood stank all over it, and no amount of name dropping of zartan or shipwreck can save it. |

I love the idea of Destro sort kick starting things. The one thing I am wary of is this Duke and Baroness bit. I guess as long as she does not wind up with him. In other words as long as Destro gets the girl Duke free to pout over anyone he wants.

Personally I think Sienna is a dog and If stro is smart he'll go RENT a female companion. Let duke have her...god knows he deserves her in this film. lol.

Well it might be refreshing to see stuff. I know its a movie, and they always change stuff when they do the movie for continuity.
At first I was opposed to the idea of Destro not wearing a mask, but then I thought if he were a real world villain, he wouldn't wear a mask. So I definitely am looking forward to what they will do with the mythos. Like many of you here, I've been waiting the last 15 years for a gi joe live action movie. Now that we're finally getting one, I'm pretty happy. Times have changed, and what was relevant in the 80s isn't today. I also look forward to seeing a whole new generation of children into this movie, and maybe if its sucessful another cartoon series. But so far, my favorite thing is the redo of Cobra Commander as a skull faced villain. That is brillant. I like that they are combining several mythos to make him into this almost demonic villain. First, he's part of the joe team, as an outsider. Then he gets mutated and has to wear this hideous mask to hide his scarred face. That is brillant, and I can finally have a semi mutated CC figure. But the movie is 8 months away. I'm more excited about this movie than I was about Transformers. But unlike TF, I know what to expect and I'm enjoying every minute of this ride.

don't worry, i'm not answering your question, but.... ****spoiler alert**** so you're telling me that you are perfectly fine with destro not wearing a mask through the entire film? he only dons the silver mask at the end because he gets horribly scarred in the fight. AND snake eyes ALWAYS wears a mask in the film, only because he is a ninja and has NO SCARS whatsoever. those are the kind of changes (and there are a LOT of them in the final larry hama approved script i read) that i just can't even fathom. it's like the origins for these chatacters that have been used for 26 years in every incarnation (even sigma six!!!!) just don't work? i hate hollywood. |

New Joes for a new generation. Power suits bring em on. Folks on here get confused about what's stupid about this movie, when everyone knows damn well we all sat through Arise Serpentor Arise, the mass device, and dreadnoks riding motorcycles in a spacestation while over grown teletubbies ran a muck. And people gripe about who has scars and whether or not Ripcord is a white dude or a black dude that played a white chick... This is a good time to be a GI Joe fan. There's more stuff coming out this year than we've had in the past 10 years. A resurgence of GI Joe just when my kids are starting to understand, that's awesome. There's not really any changes that I like. I don't necessarily dislike them either. It's a different Joe continuity.
The things I really don't like, from what I've heard, is Duke and The Baroness having a relationship and Duke and Rex/Cobra Commander being best friends. Why do the good guys and bad guys have to be linked together. Just make it simple We're the good guys and we're fighting you because you're the bad guys. Having some of the Cobras tied to Snake-Eyes in the Marvel comic was pushing it, but it worked.

I didn't like all the Snake-Eyes stuff because it felt forced. I think for the movie, you can't have just the good guys vs. bad guys. You need to draw in the larger crowd, who go to movies looking for reasons why people do things. Movie-Villians always have some grand scheme, something grandiose and flashy. And sometimes there's some connection to the hero, usually something tragic from the hero's past. Duke/Rex makes perfect sense in a movie called "Rise of Cobra". Makes sense that they'd be working together and something happens that makes Rex disfigured and go bad. That's a plot that will appeal to the large majority of movie-viewers, to who this movie is aimed. I've said it before, and god knows I'll have to keep saying it: THIS IS NOT A MOVIE FOR US. This movie is not being made for the nostalgia crowd. It's a movie for a new generation. It's being made to make the producers/directors/etc.. a boatload of money and create a new movie franchise. And to be honest, a live action movie based on the existing Joe mythos, that would be cheesy as all hell.
