So I was reading an old video game article a while back... Everyone remembers Resident Evil 2 for the PSX back in the day, right?
Everyone also remember how the first version of the game (now dubbed Resident Evil 1.5 by fans) was around 80-90% complete and they decided to can it and start all over and thus make the RE2 we got in stores? I just was thinking with all the talks of reshooting and adding stuff like more Duke scenes in as well as '3-D', and the apparent early viewings giving off a lot of negativity... Wouldn't it just be a good idea for Paramount/Hasbro to just can this version of the new movie and start over. A fixed script, better filming and whatnot? Not saying they should or that they will, but to me all the things they're doing to try and apparently 'fix' the new movie would be better put to use just maybe starting over and just hold out until next summer altogether and in the meantime do something for the time in between. |

Yeah, good idea but Paramount prolly ain't gonna waste another 100 to 200 million dollars just to call a do over.

Why should a reboot be any different? You'll either get a director who does his own thing and plays freely with Joe lore, or you'll get a director who fills the film with fan-w@nk.
Hiss Tankers will once again be at each others' throats over what's "right"... Not sure I can face that again.

Just from all the negative stuff mentioned with reshoots, adding scenes, and so on and on...this just sounded like the only thing that would work in the end. "If it's broken, just delay it until it goes direct to DVD and forget about it." Wouldn't be the first movie where it was supposed to be in theaters and then just silently got thrown onto DVD. |

I can see where you're coming from with the whole start from scratch line of thinking but I don't think it's a good idea. I don't know why it isn't, but I do think that there is a reason why it isn't, I just don't know it because I'm not an industry insider, lol! But I can definitely see where you're coming from, and I'm sure the same thought ran through my head.

I figure not.

"If it's broken, just delay it until it goes direct to DVD and forget about it." Wouldn't be the first movie where it was supposed to be in theaters and then just silently got thrown onto DVD. they new they were going to get slaughtered by spiderman & dark knight rises so they made the choice to punch the movie back and they could of put it to the beginning of september cause there is no competition but since they will do it in 3D that is probably not enough time, especially if they want to do reshoots of a few scenes in 3D. with the supposed popularity of Channing Tatum, they may do a bit extra of him interacting with the rock at the beggining before he is killed or leave him wounded but not in the rest of the movie till the very end? If he were to survive and be in the rest of the movie i would say atleast 60% of the fill would have to be reshot! so that isn't going to happen. |

In a fantasy world where people can crap out money yes it would be. But I don't see a company just throwing away a $100 million plus investment and say "do over" like it was just a 1 cent piece of paper. It's a very bad business decision and Paramount has to answer to a ton of investors at the same time try to convince them to put some more money in.
If you were an investor and somebody just wasted your initial investment, would you invest with that person again? Paramount would rather release a bad movie that will make $100 million and they loose say $50 million, rather than throw a $150 Million away and spend another $150-200 million at the gamble that the movie might break even. All of a sudden the cost of making the movie has doubled. Is it a good idea to just do a do over? Whose to say since the only people who have seen the movie are the ones who made the movie and the test audience and who really knows what the demographic of the test audience was. Judging from the fact that they want more "Tatum", it's a pretty good guess that it had a big female presence, not really the demographic this movie was meant for. One of the major factors of the movie being delayed is the timing. It was going up against some heavy hitters and we are talking about major blockbuster draws. Because of the Avengers, movies like The Dictator, Battleship and Dark Shadows (movies that were expected to do VERY WELL in the box office) took a back seat. Much like every other TV station regardless of any show they are showing will take a backseat to the Superbowl. So think about your question again. Does it really make sense?
