It needs to be epic, a lot of REAL vehicles and not a lot of boring CG. If its budget is not at least $200,000,000-$350,000,000 it will never hold any water. Needs to be like Battle of the Bulge and Pearl harbor, Big Red 1 and D-Day, a great war movie with actors like Paton (Geroge C. Scott you rock!) and Charleton Heston (Liek Dennis Quaid can even hold a candel to those guys) So the show is only going to come up to a cheesey Doom/Mirtal Kombat wanna be quick flick. It can not be as grand as Ben-hur or the other BIG screen real action flicks!

I need a live action GI Joe movie about as much as I need an adult pair of those green GI Joe under wear.

simple.. yet good concept..

I always envisioned GI Joe to be on a level like star wars.. with huge battle scenes like the Clone Wars.. & just like the different Clone troopers.. the Cobra troops be in the same catagory.. all kinds of Cobra troops.. & different charactors spread all over the world with bad ass action scenes...

Imagine a scene with like 5 Joes guarding a high security base.. & outta no where.. evading their security barriers.. like 5 Hiss tanks comes crashing in over the horizon.. just a massive fire power battle.. with in your face action.. Hisses gettin blown up.. cobra troops flying around like rag dolls.. maybe ssay.. Major Bludd leading the attack.. Joes gettin effed up.. cant hold their line anymore.. then back up comes in the form of some Skystrikers.. or maybe a Mauler... & just beat the crap outta them..

I mean that could be just one scene.. a small part of a huge intricate plot that is hard to figure out through out movie... If I sat & thought about it.. I could get pretty creative with all the different characters & locations that could take place..

I think fans would definitely appreciate that more.. than some boring story line that only focuses around the main actors... Id like to see more Joes.... Everyone from Dusty to Tunnelrat.. even if it means not getting deep into charactor ... Cameos & scenes using their trade mark personalites would be soooo sweet.... Imagine a fight scene with Flint & Lady Jay vs... Firefly & some televipers... Id love it..

As far as the look & how much to actually keep it like the cartoon or toys... I say keep it close.. like maybe the original feel to them.. but upgrade em to be modern.. & realistic.. GI JOE HAS SO much potential.. I dont know if the producers of the movie realize it.. we'll have to wait & see...

I agree with SnakEyeZ. Update it yes but not too much. There is the "general public" to appeal to sure but they should keep in mind us loyal fans also. Should be interesting to see nontheless.

I'm so glad I found this thread as I have been wondering what others have been thinking the movie "should be." I also think it is interesting that several different concepts have been expressed here by dedicated Joe fans. There has been so many negative comments about the choices made for the upcoming film, that I wondered if other Joe fans all had a vision similar to mine as to what a GI Joe movie "should" look like. I thought that perhaps the early dissatisfaction with the film might have stemmed from a departure from a "shared Joe fan" vision. Apparently, there are several interpretations of the GI Joe world by its' fans; therefore, the movie, good or bad, moslt likely will not meet everyone's full expectations. I will withhold judgement on the film until after I see it, but for now, I would like to present my vision for a GI Joe movie:

The film would take place in the present or very near future. Cobra would be an immense secret society headed by Cobra Commander. The average person would know nothing about Cobra as its' members would not advertise affiliation. Cobra Commander would have started his organization in Springfield, USA and by using charisma, he would have started a secret organization within the town that saved Springfield from a crisis (perhaps the local plant closed along the same time several veterans returned home from the war) Cobra Commander would have used a moneymaking scheme to financially support all of the people in the town who were in his organization. Thus everyone else would have been forced to leave in order to find employment elsewhere. From there Cobra (as the organization would then be named) would grow by having agents travel to other economically challenged areas and promise change and hope to individuals there. Meanwhile, the veterans would start an army for Cobra using the training they recieved in the Military. The city of Springfield would then grow and flourish as the headquarters of Cobra. The children would be taught new curriculeam at the schools. All graduting students would be required to join the military for atleast a few years and then return back to Cobra. Cobra would then continue making money using legal and illegal practices. Within a few years the entire U.S. military would be laced with undercover Cobra troops, several Cobra politicians would have bought their way into office, and Cobra would have made contacts around the world with several unsavory characters (Destro, the Barroness, Maj. Bludd, Storm Shadow, etc..)

The preceeding information was all back story to Cobra that would have been revealed during the course of the film. I think the tone of the film would need to be as realistic as possible, and that GI Joe should operate as closely to a real special ops team as possible.

I thought that a great opening to the film could be in the oval office where the President receives a recorded message from the Cobra Commander. CC demands that the President would secretly grant Cobra control over the U.S. Government or he would be killed. (I think this is the most effective way to take over the world, if you secretly gain control over the existing governments, you effectively rule without having to deal with mass civil uprisings)
After viewing the message, the President's chief of staff asks him what he will do. The President of course refuses and the Chief of Staff shoots the President. The Chief of staff, actually Zartan in disguise, then escapes by impersonating a secret service member.

The Vice President then takes office and is fully aware of what happened. Before he can inform the country as to what happened he received word that large numbers of U.S. Military weapons and vehicles have been stolen, and that 30% of the remaining U.S. Military assets have been rendered inneffective due to internal sabotage. The new President then recieves a message from CC stating the Cobra is not to be exposed to the public, and that Cobra is now a major military power (the stolen assets would be placed secretly on an island in the gulf and then modified and improved by Destro) Cobra Commander demands control over the U.S. or he will use the stolen weapons not just on the U.S., but on other countries as well. U.S. weapons used on other countries would be an act of war on other nations and would start WW3. The President agrees, and CC reminds him that Cobra has people everywhere and that he'll be watched.

The President knows that the stolen U.S. assets must be recovered, and that the U.S. military is infested by Cobra agents, so that a conventional military strike would not succeed even if they knew the location. He calls his trusted friend and Sec. of Defense Gen. Joeseph Colton. Colton had been a war hero in Vietnam, and had been given the nickname "GI JOE." Colton advises that a small top secret team made up of the best troops from the different branches would be the best option. The small size would reduce the chance of Cobra infiltration, and the diverse make up of the team would make them self sufficient in all combat areas. So the President authorizes Colton to form the "GI Joe" team.

The team would be lead by Hawk (he'd probably start as a Colonel and make General later.) General Flagg would be the Pentagon liason. The rest of the team would be comprised of our favorite Joes: Duke, Flint, Scarlet, Lady Jaye, Snake Eyes, Road Block, Ace, Torpedo, Shipwreck, etc... The Joes would use codenames to protect their identities from Cobra infiltration. Their HQ would be hidden. Their uniforms would need to be realistic and tactical, but not standardized for two reasons: Depending on the individuals specialty, that person would need different clothing and equipment, and the Joes don't always necessairily need to be recognized as U.S. Soldiers (especially when in foreign countries).

So the plot of the film would be this highly trained top secret force has to recover or destroy the stolen U.S. weapons and vehicles in order to stop Cobra. A huge end battle on Cobra Island could end the film and temporarily cripple Cobra, but a sequal would be possible because Springfield would not be discovered.

One final note, I think it is very important that GI JOE be primarily an American team. The reason for this is that Cobra is a terrorist organization that was started in America. Since the U.S. is the sponsor country, I think it should be the U.S. taking the lead on stopping it.

I would love to hear feedback on this, hope everyone has a good one.

See, this I like. I've always thought the fact that G.I. Joe had its roots in Vietnam was extremely important, but its been almost completely ret-conned out. I'd like a nod to it in the movie. It's also a nice tribute to the 12" line of G.I. Joe figures.

The tone of the film is also an important factor. I think a mixture of James Bond, Die Hard, Three Kings, Predator, and The X-Men would serve the G.I. Joe mythos best.
