Who should play Destro In The G.I. Joe Live Action Movie?

am i the only one who thinks Destro should be a black man?...
think james earl jones as vadar...Destro needs that deep black type voice...
i know what your thinking, but i did not think "weapons dealer, hmmmm, ah!, black man!"
i don't have anyone in mind, but it seems right to me...i read Fishburn, that sounds good, although Diesel has a deep voice too

I like the choice of Gerrard Butler, and added my own suggestions of Mitch Pileggi (played D.A. Skinner in X-files) and Michael Ironside. Both fit the bodytype/presence and both are decent actors. I don't know if I've heard either do an accent though...

For me, DESTRO was black. Yes, I know in the Marvel comic he was made out to be white. But growing up with Destro voiced by Arthur Burghardt in the animated series that we all know and love for so long just made an impression.

I like the idea of the movie following the marvel / Image comic story line for the movie. Darker gritty, realistic and more intune with how a GI Joe team would handle a "real world" Cobra threat.


Anyway, I've always thought of Destro as a Larger build, ruthless, straight to the point kind of leader/arms dealer. Looked down on Cobra Commander but allied himself with him due to the fact it "paid off" more. So I've been in the mindset of a larger gentleman that casts a large shadow over anyone he's near. And the iron mask, emotionless... unfeeling...expressionless...to complete the image.



For me, I think a white guy would be ok, but I have chosen 2 different gents for my Destro.

Micael Jai White from Spawn was always cool, calm collected with a very distinguished voice. (think the Navy commercials voice)

Or, as of late I have seen Micael Clark Duncan looking thinner then he normally is and I gotta say, he also would play the part of the ominus Destro.

Anyway, Im not opposed to a white Destro, but he's gotta be a big guy. and except for a well worked out Butler I don't see it really happening there. Vin Desiel is just to big a dope to play the part.

I still gotta go with Micael Jai White.

How about Mike Myers? He could voice over as Shrek.

Michael Clark Duncan I keep seeing as Kingpin, so personally I don't see him as Destro. I do like the idea of Laurence Fishburn, but its hard to imagine that anyone of his caliber would wear a mask throughout the entire thing. Unless there was a voiceover. He did do voices for TMNT and FF4. I can't see Destro with a full on Haggis accent anyway. Fishburn's voice would be perfect. They could just have a stuntman in the costume.

Also thinking about Billy Zane. Liked his character in Demon Night.

Was Destro's face ever actually shown? If not, I dont care who would play him so long as he is physically big and capable of acting. I doubt they would get into showing all of the characters unmasked and hope they dont. No need to really. The suspense makes for part of the story.

Maybe a professional wrestler could pull it off for the size and stunt aspect and let the effects take care of the mask.

yes,in the original marvel run,i forget which issue though.if someone can recall which issue(s) i can get a scan up of him.
