thanks for the open discussion, at least open discussion is still allowed. This is all speculation anyway the results of the movie will not be determined until afterwards then we will know if Hasbro's idea of G.I. Joe is a big seller or a big tanker. My love for the toy will not be diminished either way.

that is not even close to anything "propaganda". being proud and making something that is ours, isn't grandstanding or boasting...it's ours. if the "foreigners" don't like it... DONT GO #$@#%& SEE IT! And yes, "every other scene" would be a propaganda film. Quote:

Joe stripped from the movie, and I haven't read anything that says it will, but the venomous manor in which the movie is being attacked just because it isn't the major focal point of the movie is just unreasonable. the idea that G.I. Joe isn't G.I. Joe unless it is a promotion for America couldn't be farther from the truth. America is only one aspect that makes G.I. Joe G.I. Joe.

Well I would agree with you that strategically placing a flag in every shot would be overkill. ![]() And by no means does my concept of patriotism demand the movie be "pro iraq war," "pro any particular administration or policy," etc. I just think being "American" is not something anyone needs to apologize for. Not in the current political climate or ever. We have sins in our history and blood on our hands but no more so than any other nation in actuality. But because of our wealth and power, we tend to be under a larger microscope. No nation on earth has shed more of it's own blood for the sake of other's liberty. If we can't be proud of our country and especially those who have killed and/or died for it, we don't deserve the liberty we have, because it came at quite a cost to many, and continues to do so. This is not directly related but i just had a thought- I remember years back when reading the letters pages of the original comic. Very often letters were from former or active duty US military. They would respond to certain stories that they identified with or maybe just gave Hamma props when he kept certain elements "real." There was no doubt at the time that GIJOE: A Real American Hero was somewhat of a reflection on them in many ways. What a crying shame it would be if Hasbro and the corporate interests that be take away the heart and soul of GIJoe, by distancing themselves from those very heroes. |
