I've been thinking about what style of music I would like in GI Joe.
For me, I like epic style the most. Like Gladiator and The Day After Tomorrow and also cant leave out John Williams. I also like the ones from Pearl Harbor, The Peacemaker, Iron Man, Stealth, and The Rock. The Movie being what it will be, I would like it to be like Iron Man. No electronic, a little bit of rock but mostly orchestra. Hard rock would make it campy and cheezy like XxX My vote is for Hans Zimmer or Ramin Djawadi

I believe it's already being composed by Sommersverse composer Alan Silvestri.
(He's also scored Disney films like "The Parent Trap", which had Dennis Quaid in it...)

Mak Mothersbaugh from DEVO (You know the De-evolution band), but I'd want him to play My funeral if I could get him to.
Here is some of his work |

But if it must have one, I'd like to hear a something somber - chamber music, stripped down stuff, stringed instruments accompaniment. I just think a lot of times directors lean heavily on a musical score to get an emotional reaction from the audience when they should concentrate more on finding good scripts and good performances from their actors and actresses, and knock off the shoddy CG effects. We can tell it's fake. |

Silvestri is great, can't go wrong there. He did Predator! I actually picked Horner, who's also really good, but when I saw the post about Silvestri I think I changed my mind.
Agreed, a lot of his more recent stuff has become pretty formulaic, imo. Still, SW, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Shindler's List and Saving Private Ryan are all pretty awesome. There are others too... but I just don't see him at his best with something like GI Joe.

That's a pretty interesting question. In a lot of cases a score can make a movie. I really couldn't say for sure what I think would work best until I'd seen some footage, but I'm guessing it'll go one of two ways. A classical score might work, which I was very pleased was the direction the soundtrack of X-Men 1 and 2 followed, despite the typical techno drown soundtracks that were popular at the time. However, I could also see this particular movie following a Swordfish direction, knowing that style worked really well for that film. At the end of the day, though, it depends on the look and feel of the movie. The score was the only redeemable part of the SW Prequels. The soundtrack to Swordfish, I thought, really enhanced an already good film.

I like Silvestri's style of music. He composed for Beowulf, including Sommers' films ,Van Helsing and The Mummy Returns.
I also like the style of the late Jerry Goldsmith who composed for the first three Rambo movies and the first Mummy movie in 1999, also directed by Stephen Sommers. Speaking of Rambo, Brian Tyler's style is also good, he gives the thrilling score an awesome effect like he did in Rambo 4. Ramin Djawadi's score in Iron Man is also great, gives the modern day military feel to it. Hans Zimmer gave a great score in Nolan's Batman movies as well in Gladiator and the 2nd and 3rd Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Tyler Bates made a smashing soundtrack for 300 giving the bad ass epic soundtrack.

I chose John Williams. He made some pretty good themes like Star Wars, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and Superman. To name some of the best theme tunes.
