I say removable mask. But like mentioned maybe his face is kept in secret (like Vader & Fett were) and/or Baroness is the only one to see him. Gen. Scarlett, the idea of the jaw piece being seperate is kind of intriguing too, I like.

This is how I'd do it:

we see him with his mask on AND we see him with his mask off.

...but we don't know it is the same person.

Sure, fans will know that "Mr. McCullen" is Destro, but the general audience wouldn't.

It's similar to the way they approached Ra's Al Ghul in Batman Begins.

In a way, it's also like a Superhero/secret identity thingy. As McCullen, he hits the "jet set" scene and could even be regarded as a humanitarian who will be awarded a Nobel prize sometime (?), but in reality, he is the terrorist/arms dealer codenamed "Destro", who the Joes are after. And he's connected to this new "sect"/"faction" of sorts named "Cobra".

So... we see both of them but we only get to know that they are the same person towards the end... when McCullen would be forced to abandon his public life forever.

See... this could work perfectly for scenes like this:

You could have McCullen at some jet-set event with politicians, humanitarians and such... and the Baroness would show up, presenting herself with some fake ID. And while the general public would think that the Baroness is trying to get something out of McCullen, the fans would know it's actually all an "act". HELL, McCullen could even be kidnapped or have his life threatened... and it would all be part of the big scheme, whatever that may be.

This... I command!

EDIT: BTW, "Masks Off"

EDIT 2: As for the "look" - I'd have his mask be "one piece" (no movement of any sort) and, at least for the first film, it should be silver.

We could also show the original ancestor mask. Maybe it is safely kept in the "Destrocave" at McCullen's castle.

The mask is an ancient symbol to fight the powers of law and order.

At least that's how it was in the cartoon. If they play their cards right, the movie makers could pull it off in any form. As long as he has a silver mask.

That IS Destro.

I mean, what would happen if someone portrayed Megatron as anything besides a pistol... oh wait. :(

Well, as the (self proclaimed) BIGGEST DESTRO FAN EVER, I'd have to go with a vac metal mask...but removable. The McCullen clan wore the mask while doing business and/or battle. I'd like to assume that Destro has a life outside of MARS.

Although I love the character to death, it would be kinda silly to have him in his mask at all times. Wouldn't be too hard as a combat team to find the guy in the metal mask...just follow all the stupid fodder news pieces on the 5 o'clock news.

I will hold my breath and hope for the best but I have little faith in this movie so far based on what I've heard. How come James Bond is still a British agent and not a "special envoy" of the United Nations? It seems some quarters are wise if not brave enough not to water- down their national heroes...

But yes: I WAS actually trying to come up with both a feasible AND fan-pleasing option.

Just like the BIGGEST DESTRO FAN EVER said, I just don't see McCullen spoting his mask during the whole thing. It's just silly. BUT... if you go with my suggestion, you get the best of both worlds: Destro DOES wear the mask at all times: you just don't know he is also McCullen (not till the end, anyways).
