Anyone know shooting locations????
Will it be in Hollywood becasue of the convenient studios...or could it be in Canada because of the no tax on film crews.

Well, I happen to work in the industry and in the 6 years working in post I have seen about 20-30 full movies' worth of dailies transferred (full, big budget, theatrical movies, not made for cable or TV). Not one was shot in Canada, so it's not likely. TV shows now on the other hand love to shoot up there.
Honestly, it mostly depends on the story. If it's mostly city locations, it's most likely going to be shot in L.A. Also, if it's in the desert or rugged terrain, it will probably be shot here in L.A. But really, until the location scouts are ready to go out and look (which probably won't happen until maybe the middle of next year or later) we won't know. Also, the impending writer's strike might halt production on this movie since there isn't really a script for it finalized. I also think there's another strike that might happen next year...can't remember who. Last edited by DarthBrett; 10-13-2007 at 09:04 PM.. |

Well, there's two good helpful tips I can give you. One, school isn't really important in this industry. Experience will get you more money and the job you want, not a film school or editing school. Sure, it might be helpful some day down the line, but honestly most people in the film/tv industry never went to any kind of special art/film/media school. Also, be prepared to start at the bottom. You aren't going to be able to get a job editing without paying your dues. Expect to start in a vault or shipping department and then work your way up to a better career (tape op/tc and edit assist/colorist, edito, sound....you get the idea). I suggest just throwing your resume out everywhere and start applying at every post-house there is where you live.
But if I read you correctly, you want to have your movie made or edited. Now this area actually pays to have schooling usually. Call around, find out how much all the post houses will charge for a bay per hour. Most of the smaller ones will offer a better price and are easier to get a an actual bay to be able to work in. Take in mind, no matter what you do, it's a hard business to succeed in and the schedule and hours can be ridiculous sometimes (I've worked 80 hours in 5 days before), but it's also fun and interesting! Good luck!! |

We've got Hulk 2 shooting here in Toronto right now & The Mummy 3 in Montreal, both are huge features.
There was some talk of GI Joe renting studio space in Montreal but nothing is signed yet. And Post is the place to be in the film biz! Being on set can be dull as hell! |
