IMHO, I think it's way to early to say if this movie is going to suck OR rock. Granted, it's not the G.I.Joe everyone grew up with...but is it that hard to look past that? We have the 25th to re-live our childhoods with, plus the Cartoon on the way. I think it's great that the movie is trying to lure in a larger audience (what big Hollywood blockbuster wouldn't?).
From what we've seen so far, from vehicle design to costumes, the only thing I can say for sure is that it's different. If it sucks, then by all means, those that don't enjoy it can "I told you so" all day. Just try to keep an open mind. People say Transformers sucked, but grossing 300Mil goes against that statement. A lot of people enjoyed it, which is why TF Movie toys are still on shelves today. If G.I.Joe can even get a sliver of that, can you imagine what that means for us? TONS of new toys. So, in closing...don't fear change. It's a good thing. |

Well, I read the script, grew up on the cartoon, never read the comics (other than most of the Transformers xover). I'm excited about the movie.
I just hope that SE gets horribly disfigured in Joe2 & the Ripcord/Scarlett thing gets dropped. If they want akward love triangles, bring in the Shipwreck/Flint/Lady Jaye one. I'm not too pleased that The Baroness isn't European either. But overall, I expect to like it. Last edited by Prince of Fire & Thunder; 07-01-2008 at 07:53 PM.. |

Well said C.I.A.D., pretty much summed up what I was thinking.

CIAD you have a truly valid point. Again i think its more so the track record of a lot of franchises, not just joe, these days that are putting the big worries on this one. that coupled with the realization that classic charcaters in the toy line may never see the light of day except in movie-ized version i think is also fueling the flames of discontent.

I couldn't agree with you more. That said, though, we're all assuming on such a profound level, that we're ruining the thought of the movie and it's "schwag" well before we've even seen a trailer. Now, don't get me wrong, I'll be the first one to yell out a big BOOOOOOOOO if all we get is a 90 minute screen fart. I just don't think that's going to be the case here, but that's just my opinion. I think we're in for something a lot more "real" than any of us anticipated. |

As Stated by Brian Goldner CEO of Hasbro And Joe movie producer in an interview March 6 2008:
But what about the movie's spirit? Should fans expect to see a live-action version of the cartoon, an update on the Marvel comics, or something else entirely? According to Goldner, Sommers and crew want to take filmgoers back a couple of decades: "Steve Sommers is very different. But he's perfect, because if you think about his movies like 'The Mummy,' it's the perfect action/adventure movie. If you think about what we're trying to do for G.I. Joe, really bringing back that '80s G.I. Joe from the Marvel comics -- those first 155 issues are really our focus. If you think about that, you'll understand what we're trying to get at with all those characters and all the intricate relationships. I don't think you'd see this movie as wacky. I think you're going to see this movie as being inspirational for younger kids and totally in the sweet spot for the guys who grew up on G.I. Joe." It was basically promised that this movie would be based on the Joes we know from the US comic run. Not another version of Joe like the one (rumored) being made. |
