O.K. I know why they won't make an R rated GI.Joe movie. It's always been for kids, and is an on going toy line. A toy line that would still like to have a future selling toys to kids. Fair enough.
However some of the movies we loved as kids had some really adult themes. For example the Ghostbusters. The Ghostbusters had a cartoon, and toy line. I had a ghostbusters lunch box, sleeping bag, "happy meal" toy. The list goes on. All this was after the Ghostbusters Movie had them cussing like sailors, Smoking, doing straight shots of whisky, having sexual fantasies ect... This was a movie that was rated PG. What about all the R rated movies we loved as kids? Rambo (toy line/cartoon), Commando (toys), Robo Cop (toy line/cartoon), Predator (toys), Alien (toys), Nightmare on Elm st (toys), Terminator(toys) At least you could do that kind of stuff in the 80's, and early 90's. I know things have changed. I just think that we all grew up, why not let the Joes? Would you like to see a rated R GI.Joe movie? Last edited by delta; 06-17-2008 at 05:16 PM.. |

As long as it meets some "R" requirements: nudity and F-Bombs...

I grew up with all those "R-rated" action movies in the 80's (although they were '18 certificate' to me) and loved 'em all - Red Heat, Raw Deal, The Exterminator... they're just so afraid to make movies like that now.
Having said that, I don't think slow-mo blood gushing squib hits would be right for Joe. I'm sure people will die in the movie, but I expect it to be 'clean'. Although Sommer's 'The Mummy' had some grisly deaths, they were still strangely clinical.

No. I'd be highly offended by the lack of parachuting and laser rifles ;-)

No R-rating, but no "A-Team" action either! No jeeps doing a flip with the dummys inside clearly being mangled, and then cutting to the real driver staggering away 'slightly dazed'.
Although I hasten to add that I love the A-Team! Another great 80's creation.

I know its kind of far-fetched, but I would love to see this movie with realistic violence. If people get shot, they bleed.....a lot. I just hope its not as trashtastic as the Transformers movie.....or as corny as the Mummy movies...or Van Helsing.
I am hoping for the best and preparing for the worst with this. At least we get a pretty decent looking Snake Eyes out of it. |

Erm, I'd definitely see it, but you're missing the intended audience by a longshot here. It doesn't matter that the original Joe vs Cobra fans are all old men like me. We're not really the toy audience no matter how much we think of ourselves. GI Joe belongs to children.
