For me, GI Joe jumped the shark when Stephanie, Jenny, and Rachel developed breasts at school. It would have been impossible for any amount of gimmick or cool story line to hold my attention at that point.
But all the crazy neon stuff? Ninjas out the yin-yang? Transforming shipping crates? EVERY vehicle has another vehicle hiding inside? Snake men? Eco-wtF? I can see any of these things as what kept me from coming back . |

nah, if you remember in 88-89....those crash test dummies became really popular in the commericals then they had the toys and i think a short lived cartoon. hasbro was cashing in on an idea that unfortunetly hit home to many. notice it was dropped a year later. they even stopped the clips after a while.
as for "jump the shark", Ive heard it since I think, 1982 when it originated with "happy days". but the term didnt became popular until it was on either howard stern or opie and anthony. |

I agree with what others have said: neon is usually a bad sign, and mutant monsters _definitely_ jumped the shark. But Hasbro etc fixed it and we're okay now.
The cartoons are too easy a target, so I won't count them: shrinking people to a few inches tall? time travel? Ugh.

I am sorry but the DIC version of GI Joe was utterly horrid. When someone brings it up I hear the nasal high pitch voice acting and the bad writingand ov course Metal Head(no wonder why Cobra sucked do badly).I was not a big fan of the Cobra La angle either.I liked Slaughter's renegades a lot better.Someone was smoking something very good when they came up with the Cobra La concept.
