First off howdy all, I am a fellow Canadian Joe fan new to boards. For me it started quite early for me. It was 1986 and I was 2 years old, and I was just starting to watch them on TV. I remember many key characters like Spirit, Cobra Commander, Baroness, Flint, and some others but I didn't know know their names at all. My brother tried to teach me about it, now I remember, but I was only 2 and I never really paid much attention. (Lol) My brother got a Mobat with Steeler for Christmas, and man that thing is awesome. Also to many of you guys, may not know, is that he actually got variant one, well a file card difference. Rather than Steeler coming from Pittsburgh, on this box he was from Hamilton Ontario, Canada which was pretty cool. The stickers had a bunch of Canadian flags on it too.
I live near a TRU and I remember, some of them like BATS, Baroness, Quick Kick (I know he was earlier, but not very popular) and countless Joe vehicles. For some reason though, I was more drawn to the figures than the vehicles, maybe because the single figures stood out so well. The artwrok on the package was just beautiful. 1988 rolled around and I began understanding GI Joe, and I appreciated it more, after learning more about the characters and the history of the shows and stuff. My favourite Joe of all time is of course Snake Eyes (1988 Version), but I couldn't find him anywhere, so my Dad got me a Tiger Force Duke instead. Again old Joe episodes began airing and there were a whole bunch of new characters and I was absolutley mesmorised. In fact though, they were the early episodes, so I was introduced to characters like Gung-Ho, Scarlett, Shipwreck, Stalker, Storm Shadow, and Major Bludd. I was also introduced to Cobra soldiers and officers too all for the first time. Things went backwards, but still I managed to finally put things together, and alot of the characters made more sense to me. The 15th Anniversary rolled around and Joes began popping up again and the hype for them too. I began finding older figures and started building my collection. I was always hoping Hasbro would rerelease some older characters with vintage style packaging for their 20th Anniversary becuase they did for Transformers and VOTC Star Wars. So I was really eager to see if Hasbro would ever do something like that again, but not yet. Instead I got the GI Joe DVDs and began watching them all over again. Well now it's the 25th Anniversary and honestly know I appreciate them a hell of alot more. I admit I don't love all of the figures like the 25th Serpentor, but I'm having alot of fun with them. I went o my first Canadian Joe meet a few weeks ago and met Larry Hama. He signed my Wave 1 Flint figure, and my brother got his Wave 5 Snake Eyes signed by him too. Now, I'm hooked. |

I know what you mean. When I first saw Storm Shadow, I was introduced to 1988 version, but my brother told me more about the old Storm Shadow from 1984, and how much he liked the old figure and seen him on the show.
I thought he was okay, but I was always more of a Snake Eyes fan. |

It was the first time I saw the first commerical where they named all the original Joes in 82.
"Infantry Trooper, codename: Grunt..." and so on. My first figures were Stalker (I dug the camo) and Breaker (because he was the star of the second commercial) My cousin and I were huge SW fans and he bought his first Joe comic the day I bought my 2 figures and it tookover SW as our new hobby. My favorite figure was my mail order Duke.

I remember my older cousins had a hand in it. They had been collectors of comic books, Star Wars, universal monster stuff and built home-made ninja weapons. I distinctly remember sitting with them and my dad in my dad's truck, and we were listening to the "Breakin'" soundtrack. They were also into the Beastie Boys and Dead Kennedys and stuff. I was about 6 when the ARAH line first came out - and they had them right off the bat. I'm not sure how much later it was (maybe Christmas), but I do remember my first Joe was Short-Fuze. My collection built up fast after that. I remember getting my mail-order Cobra Commander, as well as Duke. My mom was always great at finding deals on Joes, and seemed as enthusiastic about them as me sometimes - she always liked the ones that came with animals, and her favorite was Spirit with Freedom. I remember the commercials when they first came out, and the original 5-part cartoon. I even remember the cereal. My younger brother (by 12 years) has all of my Joe stuff now. Wah.

I remember seeing the commercial and going bananas over it, then being out at some kind of store shortly afterwards that sold toys (maybe it was a "Best"...anyone else remember them?) and wanting some but being told "no you can't have those," without any particular reason why. I found out why soon after, because either that day or the next my grandmother and other out of state relatives came to visit, and I think my brother and I got, as gifts from them, nearly every Joe that was out the time; I know we got Grunt, Stalker, Snake-Eyes, Zap, Breaker, Scarlett, and Flash, some Cobra Troopers and Officers...it was a good day.

I started out with 12" Action Man figures during the 70's here in England. Moved to the 3 3/4 "soldiers of the world" Action Force figures in the very early 80's and then onto the 'Action Force versus the Red Shadows' concept, which really got my interest and I was an avid collector of all the figures, vehicles and "Battle Action Force" comic. "Z Force" was always my favourite, but I did wish for better articulation in the figures.
This wish was granted when the line absorbed U.S. GI Joe figures and introduced the Cobra organisation. I didn't even know what 'GI JOE' was at this point: To me it was just Action Force, but improved in every way production wise. Then AF became GI Joe even in this country and I've been there ever since.

I was 10 in 1982, going to K-Mart to get the diecast Eagle Force fig's(no new Star Wars were out yet, so I need a new line of toys to ge into). All the EF were gone, but I did see a new figure, that I never saw before. I immidiately noticed the upgraded articulation compared to Star Wars figures and it was the last fig on the pegs, Bazooka Soldier. Picked him up and a day or two later, the comic debuted and I noticed it was the same as my new action figures, which sealed the deal for me.

In Nov of '82 for my tenth birthday I got two Cobra Troopers and one Cobra officer along with Grunt, Rock & Roll, Snake Eyes and Flash. From there I was hooked. I clearly remember that Christmas eve I was at a party with my parents and brought my Snake Eyes to play with. During the night his O ring snapped and I was crushed. The next morning there was a new Snake Eyes in my stocking. Now its not that my parents rushed out that night and bought another one. I am sure they just bought it because it was GI Joe but to me it was as if Santa had known I broke him the night before. ;)
