would I ever bend cards? no. do I care whether someone else does? not at all. I do understand why someone would bend cards and the frustration and aggravation that instigated the behavior. is it a mature, rational response to combat scalping? no. but if toy collecting has shown me anything, it is that the hobby isn't filled with maturity and rationale to begin with, so I guess such behavior is as par for the course with the hobby as scalping.
but just as scalping and hoarding causes aggravation for those who can't find what they want, I understand how bending causes equal aggravation for those looking for mint cards. the point is, dealing with aggravation is part of this hobby, you will never be able to eliminate being subjected to dicky behavior from the hobby. it comes from all sides. I assume the frustration comes from collectors whose excitement of finally finding product on the shelves is dashed by realizing the cards have been damaged. the problem, though, is that the fact that they are damaged inherently means someone else was there first, and had they not damaged them, maybe someone else would have bought them before you, so you wouldn't have found them at all had they not been damaged. you dont know where yo were in the line of finding them, so you don't know had they not been damaged had you found them mint before a scalper or hoarder. I'm not defending the action, simply trying to present some perspective to deal with the aggravation. |

There is also a chance that the cards were bent while still sealed in the case or when leaving the factory. I found a brand new sealed/unopened case of wave 5 when it first came out back in December and every single figure's card was bent up pretty well.

Ive seen scalpers pass up bent cards with a sigh........so no It wont. A scalper wants the Fig MOC to sale on Ebay or where ever he sales......To me the benders have helped because ive scored some Joes like that. Dude thats how i got my Flint.....a bent card it was sitting on the shelf for 2 weeks....at that point I was only going to get the Joes I wanted not all of them so I left it there and bought it later as it pegged warmed the shelf........
ok let me explain what I'm saying here because it seems that you missed my point. Example.... you want a MOC Flint. Just like the one you kept passing on because the card was bent. Well lets say "Darth Salper" has one up on E bay. Now if YOU want one MOC and all you are finding is bent cards at retail it stands to reason that if you want it bad enough you will pay more for it. The harder it is to find the way you want it the more you are willing to pay to get it. If there is less of a chance to find it at retail MOC then the secondary market's value will go up on them. Oh and I don't think many MOC collectors "army build" or bye for customs. Hey I have a great idea. In the time it takes to bend every card they can send an e mail to the retailer telling them that you would like to see more ordered. |

I'm confused, Who is actually bending these cards?? Is it a scalper, a collector who didn't have any money, or a third party who doesn't care about toys & has nothing better to do with thier time?
Has anyone ever been busted for doing this? I havn't seen wave 7 in the stores yet, but I'm not searching Hot and Heavy either. I figure I'll find them when they are clogging the store shelves like wave 4,5,&6 are right now. No one will care enough about them to damage them then. I just wonder if we collectors are inducing a demand that in the future we won't be able to sustain, to the retailers satisfaction. Thus the retailers dissatisfaction with the G.I. Joe line will mean its untimely demise. |

Oh, and Space, you have my word, here in writing...when/if I find wave 8 at retail, I will have my fill. Once I'm full, I will pick up a set for you.
I may even be able to get you a set right away, but I warn you now, I want a few Python Officers, so you'll definitely not be seeing him. Mind if I bend the cards though? |

Your capslock doesn't scare me. But since I want to get my point across in the same fashion you do...HOW MANY TIMES MUST I SAY THAT IT ISN'T JUST SCALPERS BUYING CARDED FIGURES? Every day collectors, just like yourself, who happen to collect MOC figures, are being pooped on. So how can you say you're indifferent because scalpers won't get them...isn't that, selfish? And as noted earlier *CAPS LOCK* Isn't that exactly what the whole card bending deal is supposed to stop? selfishness?
No, I don't think you do, nor did I state at any time that I thought you did. Don't think for me. I do fine by myself, tyvm. ;) You & I have beat this one to death, Space. Let's let the next couple of guys continue debating this one. I need to get something to eat. |
