So here's a question that keeps coming up in file card discussions I've had at various times since I've joined the Tank...
What's the deal with Captain Grid Iron? I'd like to talk about the character - not his costume/uniform - but the character. 1. He's an Army Infantry Officer - considering he was selected for the G.I. Joe Team, he was probably an outstanding Infantry Officer, which means he's Airborne, and Ranger qualified (and probably Air Assault, and EIB/CIB qualified as well). The Joes have very few officers (it seems like over half of them are pilots), and they need all the COMBAT officers they can get. 2. He graduated Top 10 in his class from West Point - the guy is obviously a brain. West Point is one of the hardest schools in the country, and if the guy graduated in the Top 10, he's a top notch scholar. 3. He was the Starting QB on the West Point football team - the guy was a starting player on a Division 1 College football team: he's incredibly strong, fast, and athletic. 4. Hand-to-hand combat specialist - This is actually the guy's Primary military specialty. Not only is he a good athlete, but the guy is evidently pretty deadly with his hands. All in all - and I'll be the first the admit that the file card is pretty poorly written (it seems pretty juvenile) - there's a lot of things that are pretty awesome about Captain Grid Iron. So if Hasbro brought this character back in a more realistic/tactical, POC-type of uniform, would anyone be interested in seeing this character again?

And I thought you'd left for good... but I'm so glad you didn't.
I'm with you, headman, I'm a sucker for the football grenades, but a lot of Tankers hate the football stuff.

As I stated in our discussion in your Claymore thread - HELL YEAH!
The guy had promise. Sure, his uniform fringes on the bizarre, but he had promise. Heck, modern style customs have proved that he can still look awesome with the football gear base. http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...25th-poll.html That said, you could easily modify his armor and just keep the football-styled helmet without compromising the design. He like many others of that era just needs a few minor modifications in order to fit in alongside more "famous" joes, and he can certainly fill a good and lacking role within the Joe organization. |
