Posts: 963 | Thought I'd share my brother's story & advice... he had a house fire and lost a complete AT-AT, Millenium Falcon, Hoth playset and a ton of vintage SW figures... I asked him afterwards about losing the collection and he offered some good advice: "take pictures!"
I'm sure this is good advice in general for dealing with insurance companies after something like this, but for the things like the TV, furniture, etc, he got a fair reimbursement, but for "collectibles" he had to really convince the agents that they were worth what they were and not "just toys."
So go take some photos of your Joes (and w/e else of value)! My bro ended up with a pretty decent check and he had some fun shopping, er, replacing his SW stuff... |

a picture is worth a thousand words, or quite possibly thousands of $. |

I mean, I've got a mint Starduster, Viper Pilot, a bunch of European and a couple Brazilian exclusives in mint condition. Insurance would cover some of the cost but it would be a real pain to find those in mint condition again in the first place. Of course survival comes first, but it'd probably be easier for me than some - no kids or pets right now, just the gf. |

I learned my lesson after the Marines moved me and the Navy lost half my stuff. $30 or more on ebay and smalljoes.com a week adds up! But it's pointless to do all that without insurance, so take of yourselves and make sure you'll be able to at least try and rebuild your collection. I've seen a friend pretty much loose it when his Star Wars collection was destroyed in a fire and he didn't have renters insurance. He was physically fine, but depressed for months.
