Well, I'm no psychologist, but I imagine that the same compulsion we have as collectors is what's at work with the hoarders - it's just taken to an extreme, crazy level.
It's an interesting show. I can't believe some of these people... While I know I'm no hoarder, seeing that kind of behaviour does remind me to throw out a lot of stuff I tend to keep, like packaging, stuff I don't use, etc. I also try to keep my collection "focused". It's difficult to remain focused on only GI Joe, when there are other cool lines out there (for example, I can't NOT get the MOTUC stuff, it's just too cool), but I do set limits to what I get. I like a nice display.

Because they feel compelled to buy things they don't necessarily want just to able to say they own every item from whatever it is they collect. Last edited by lister; 10-28-2010 at 02:42 PM.. |

Agreed.
I liked Hoarders until the episode where they found cats were cannibalizing each other with bones under layers of feces. They also came across bags of feces from the woman, who didn't have a working toilet so she was using garbage bags to hold her refuse. That was it for me.

My wife would watch that show and hate me more, lol. Even though I have less than 50 figures.

Anyone catch the episode of Pawn Stars where someone walked in with the Transformers collection? I missed it.

can you stop buying toys?
or do you keep going simply to have them all? When you don't care about the item but get it just because you feel you have to have it. You may be a hoarder. I have walked away from Gi joe over a year ago...that last figure I got was matt tracker. I'm trying to walk away from transformers, but the new generation line has me thinking about buying it again. at one point I wasn't even opening the boxes people sent me toys in, I didn't care as all as I had it. It really can be a fine line.
