A friend of mine who runs a comic book shop told me he heard that Devil's Due was losing the comic license for G.I. Joe soon and it was going to another company. Has anyone else heard this or am I way behind on news?

Yes, they did. The rumor is IDW has it. This is actually pretty old news, but you discovered it at a good time b/c from the last set of Hasbro QA'a, Hasbro says the new publisher will be revealed fairly soon at gijoe.com. Us comic fans have been wondering for 2-3 moths where the comic is going and if the continuity is ending.

Thanks for the info Jay. I would be very happy if IDW gets it because I have really enjoyed their Transformers and Star Trek books. The continuity question is the real biggie. One of the great things about the Devil's Due run was the fact that it continued the Marvel continuity. Well, we should know soon I guess.

BeAU Smith has remarked that he too has heard idw has the lisence but that Hasbro was enforcing very strict rules on stories and characters. So, while i vote 'no' to reboot maybe in the end its for the best.

Whoever gets it, we'll probably be without a JOE comic until 2009... Maybe a big relaunch to tie in with the movie?
No book... what a stinker.

i would say probably not. i don't think that it is a coincidence that the current comic ends it's run around the same time as the joe convention. i bet the new one will be introduced there and will start shortly after.
