Yes yes I know this is a dead horse I'm flogging here but it's been bothering me for a while. Rhino as we all know dropped the ball and never released season 2 pt 2 so we didnt get the whole original show. Now I see the DVD's coming from Hasbro in the Battle Packs and I think, hm... maybe?????
Does anyone know if there are plans to re-run the dvd's for us cartoon fans? I don't know any details about who has what rights to this that or the other so pardon this post if it's just one more of the same. I did search but didn't find anything too close to this so.... |

Rhino didn't "drop the ball" and just stop producing the DVD's for no apparent reason. They lost the rights to the cartoon series to Sony if I am not mistaken. Sony owns the rights to the cartoon series now, but refuses to release the series on DVD.

Ok, sorry Rhino! ... but if they had time to put out all the TF sets I just wish they had pushed out that last Joe set before they lost the rights. If Sony has the rights, I wonder how Hasbro is doing the DVD Battle Sets. I just hope this is a sign that things are moving in the right direction.
I know this thread is a bit of a "non-starter" but I'm just putting this out here. Thanks for your thoughts. |

Has anyone tried calling lately and asking Sony if they are planning anything, considering the movie is next year?

Why the *%&$ would Sony acquire the rights, but refuse to re-release the episodes on DVD. It just doesn't make any sense!!!
Its rediculous!!! |

IF these ever get rereleased it will be just that. We will all probably own the same episodes twice somewhere down the line. Sony would probably put these last episodes with something else that's already been released before. Kinda makes you want to cry doesn't it?

I think the only people that could put pressure on Sony to produce the DVD's is Hasbro. They have the most to gain from it all since it would only serve to boost the interest in the toys. I guess this would be the best time to do it... Sony has always confused me to no end - my video camera is top notch, my DVDR has broken more times than I can count.
They do sound like real collectors though.. buy something and put it away in a dark room somewhere. ;) HEY! that's it! Mr. Sony is the ultimate Joe collector. They own the one thing that no one else can ever have. If they produce it then the rarity and value goes down! That's got to be the explanation because nothing else makes sense. |

I would imagine that sony has a vested interest in seeing DVD go away (to make room for blu-ray) that we would see some sort of season releases on blu-ray that would corrolate with the movie next year. whether or not they would release anything on normal DVD is anyones guess...

Well actually they did drop the ball. They (Rhino) knew in advance that they were losing the license. But did not make the cut in getting the DVD's out there. At the very least they could have put together a no Thrills set out there.

Rhino released the DVDs at a bad time. That was back before EVERYTHING was on DVD and the sets retailed for around $80 which was very steep and probably didn't help sales. Hasbro didn't know what they were doing then either and partnered up with some very crappy figure releases for the DVDs. It was a mess.
Sony is a terrible company though and don't care what fans want. Sony only does what Sony wants. So we can only hope they WANT to cash in on the Joe craze and get the DVDs out. I am somewhat shocked that Hasbro can release the DVDs in these toy sets though. They must have worked out some agreement. |
