Hello Hello my fellow Joes...(& Cobras) コブラ!!
ジョーマンガ!大好きでも大嫌いですか?はじめましょう! It's Johnny again with an invigorating comic book question! Now... I have 3 issue of this "Americas Elite" & let me tell you, I am really enjoying it. BUT I have heard here and there that some people LOATH this comic book series! I was suprised because the artwork is pretty good & the story was really modern. Apparently, it does not keep in line with Larry Hama's orginial story idea & some characters are changed....and so on. SO, What makes you hate this comic so much?

As for America's Elite, I don't hate it. I'm just glad I'm getting a Joe comic. Devil's Dues earlier stuff is much better, even though they killed Lady Jaye. You can never compare it to the Marvel stories.

The art was great, I don't see why anyone would think Mark Robinson's rendition of Storm Shadow was better than Stefano Casselli's, its just that the writing by Joe Casey was very predictable and ninja-ful. They even did the cliche storyarc of Snake eyes dying then coming back.
Gee I wonder why they didn't do that with Lady jaye...anyways... Artwork was wonderful, writing wasn't, which was why most fans loved it when a new writer came onboard which led to WWIII. |

It was great for the first two story arcs, but ever since the WWIII story started last year, the way it's being told and the art work have both gone in the toilet. :(
Don't get me wrong, I still like the series and the idea behind the WWIII story, but I think it could have been told much better and drawn a LOT better is all. .

I think the WWIII story arc (and the "Sins of the Mother" arc that preceeded it), are arguably the best that any Joe comic has been since the midpoint of the Marvel series.
The art has a certain style that is a bit more loose than previous artists, but I really enjoy it. It's definitely less cartoony than the previous DDP series. The Joe Casey issues weren't quite as good, but issue 21 - present have been outstanding. I think DDP plans to go out on a high note, and I appreciate the effort. I only hope that when IDW gets the license that they try as hard and put as much effort into it. I'd hate for it to end up like the current TF books, an endless stream of miniseries and one-shots, none of which tell a compelling story or contain any pretense of a resolution. |

So far I have only 3 issue...but I can see what your saying about the artwork. It sometimes is different from one issue to the next. I think I might pick up one of those Trade Paper Backs...
I think its great that they tried to make the story of G.I. Joe "real" in the America's Elite, they really put a BG to many characters & make them seem legit...you know? I hope this new guy does the comic well. What do you think they will do with the G.I. Joe story line this time?

As for the new series, there is much speculation as to whether it will be true to the original characters and backgrounds or whether it will follow the new movie status quo. They have already stated that the continuity going back to the Marvel '82 series is ending. IDW started a new Transformers continuity that follows neither the previous series nor the TF movie. I hope that the new Joe is much more familiar to fans of the comics and cartoons, even if the slate is wiped clean on continuity, rather than the movie status quo. The movie might end up being good, but I don't want it forced down my throat in my monthly comic. |

I am going to wait for the trade to come out and then grab it. I liked AE better than the earlier DD run, but to me what killed AE was snake eyes dying and resurrecting as a bad ninja. Really really weak and ill thought up. For guys that were supposed Gi Joe fanatics, they should have known better than to even attempt this. There were so many better choices they could have made. This too me killed any momentum.
It took them too long to recover. Also, the Special missions stories, should have been one story per book. IDW should just focus on individual stories for the start just like marvel did in the first 10 or so issues. Instead of too many plot lines running on for too long like DD. |
