To me, it seemed to run counter to everything that HASBRO had done previously in the line, so here is my rant that I also posted on another forum so if there are some cross readers I apologize.
Eco-Warriors? GAH! Are you kidding me? A bright neon HISS tank that shoots ooze to pollute the environment!? World domination through pollution!? POLLUTION!? How did that meeting at Hasbro go? I bet it went something like this:
INT. HASBRO CORPORATE OFFICES BOARDROOM--DAY
There is a large oval table in the boardroom and all around it are the top brass of the HASBRO boy’s line. JOHNSON (a weasely looking little man) is at the front next to some materials that he is using for a presentation. A calendar on the wall says the date is July 21st 1989.
Johnson: "For our new line, Cobra Commander has come up with a new plan for world domination. Using existing molds we will create offensively colored figures and vehicles that will battle for control of the PLANET. Through pollution COBRA will...uh, ...will...SULLY THE ENVIRONMENT, spread asbestos, use Round-Up on the Terrordrome's lawn, and kill baby polar bears!"
Hasbro CEO: "BRILLIANT! Ms. Steinbrenner, make a note to give Johnson a raise!"
Ms Steinbrenner: "Yes sir."
Davidson: "Well I think we should continue in the tradition of realistically styled military figures and vehicles."
Johnson: <rolling eyes> "Yeah, that's a great idea."
Hasbro CEO: "Davidson, are you some kind of MORON? That would never work nowadays!"
Johnson: "Yeah, idiot."
Davidson: "I just thought--"
Hasbro CEO: "Who cares what you thought!? Everyone knows that kids nowadays don't want MILITARY toys, they want blinding neon colored abominations where the JOES have to clean up the environment after COBRA has sprayed led based paint and DDT on a wildlife preserve!"
Davidson: "Sorry sir..."
Hasbro CEO: "You should be Davidson, you should be. I mean really, what kid out there would want a realistically styled F-18 Hornet, Apache Helicopter or M1 Tank? COME ON that is ridiculous!
Johnson: <snickers> "Lame-o."
Hasbro CEO: "You know what Davidson? I am sick of you not being a team player, and I am SICK of your OFF THE WALL ideas! Get your stuff and get the h**l out of here! YOU'RE FIRED!
Close scene. |

I also really like my Eco-Striker but I'm a sucker for the AWE Striker and Blue is my favorite color. I'd also like a Toxo Lab cuz it looks kinda cool........oh no.....I've been brainwashed! |

In fact, I think that's a really important thing to educate kids about. But doing so with some lame-arse superhero like Captain Planet, or with G.I. Joe figs? Pffffft. Those are for escape. Children (in the US, anyway) are in school roughly 40 hours a week, 9-10 months out the year, as it is; when it comes to play, to escape, just let 'em play. It doesn't have to be a message. |

I stayed the heck away from the rest (and still do)
-Viper 486 out
