Python Patrol was in the DIC cartoon and a couple of comic issues. I think they explained the color scheme as a way to hide from radar, but it was debunked in the comic. They actually bribed some guy to turn off the radar. Anyway, what was the point of Tiger Force? Did that paint scheme actually help them in any way? Did they ever show up in the comic or the cartoon?

Tigerforce was supposed to be G.I.Joe's answer to Python Patrol. Once I found out what the Real Tiger Force was, I found the subgroup to be that much cooler...because it really gave a dark twist to that S.E. Grin on TF Duke's face

I thought Python Patrol was the answer to Tiger Force since TF debuted in '88? Anyways, it was obviously a way for Hasbro to get some of the older and more popular characters back on the toy shelves by using the same molds but making them fresh by repainting them in a new theme. Saved Hasbro money by doing this and kept kids happy at the same time.

Plain and simple, make money on molds that were already done.
That being said, "tiger stripe" camo has its origins in Vietnam, specifically made for jungle use. TF obviously has taken that motif a step further, but that's how I saw the team - jungle warfare. Python Patrol was supposed to be radar resistant, TF not so much. And yeah it was a year later. |
