I think someone may have gotten the idea from this
But the obvious answer as to "why" they did it is money. Last edited by Ako Roshi; 09-25-2010 at 01:34 AM.. |

I remember the 1st time i saw the Tiger force TV Ads. they always exalted the fact that Gi joe forces where using the captured cobra equipment to fight them back. if i remember good they showed on one Ad how they where painting the cobra rattler into a tiger rat. hehe wow that was soooo long ago.

Although sales would be the most obvious goal of a toy maker, the paint job was certainly borrowed from NATO. That’s fine by me. Makes sense, sort of like Steel Brigade’s anonymity and such.
The Tiger Force mission statement: “TIGER FORCE - a special unit within the GI JOE team - is called up for a secret and highly dangerous mission in the remote jungle! COBRA has set up a network of power bases that will simultaneously attack key cities around the globe. It will take the combined skills of the TIGER FORCE team to hunt down these hidden bases and disable them. Together, TIGER FORCE will search relentlessly and strike deeply to save the world from the COBRA enemy!” Logically, if G.I. Joe uses Tiger Force, they will have the element of surprise for a first strike against these Cobra power bases. An approaching Tiger Rat would easily be mistaken for a Cobra Rattler until it was too late. Same thing for a Tiger Shark looking and sounding like a Cobra Water Moccasin. Jungle patrols would hear the movements or see the tire tracks of a Tiger Paw and mistake it for just another Cobra Ferret. In recently years (2004) the addition of the Tiger-Ray Hydrofoil really increased the team’s effectiveness, perfectly appearing to be just another Cobra Moray Hydrofoil, and did not go for the full tiger stripe paint scheme, similar to how the real life NATO Tiger Association is moving away from that themselves. In 1960, two RAF squadrons and a French squadron planned to meet for whiskey and cheer, but some mistakenly answered the invitation through official channels and soon it became what would be known as the NATO Tiger Association. Unit patches, unique tiger stripe paint jobs, etc. A good thing that G.I. Joe used the paint job from a few decades ago, because for the past two years the NATO Tiger Association has only been using paintings of a tiger or the eyes of a tiger on just the stabilizer or some smaller area of each aircraft. So when G.I. Joe needs to, they can pass off Tiger Force unit movements as just another NATO exercise and disavow United States direct involvement when it politically suits them to do so. |

I copied it from the yojoe website on the subteams section... it was the statement which appeared on the back of the 2003 Tiger Force five-pack which was exclusive to Toys 'R Us stores. This was the pack which finally brought us the canceled 1988 Sabre Tooth figure, now renamed as Wreckage in 2003.
We received the Tiger Force version of Wild Bill as a Target exclusive in 2009. Do you think we'll ever receive the canceled Tiger Force Ripcord? Given the alterations to Ripcord in the Rise of Cobra movie series, I now seriously doubt it myself. Last edited by Playful; 09-28-2010 at 12:59 AM.. Reason: Added more precise information. |
