I'll ignore the whole 'Nam aspect of the Tiger Force name as its a toy line and I doubt that was hasbros intent. Tiger Force sounds cool and Tigers Stripes look like they belong in the army, and i suspect thats why the TF line was created.

Its a clever marketing ploy to move product when there was no show to promote the Joe toyline.

Flint and Recondo are two of the more realistic looking Tiger Force figures, but I really love Outback. I don't know, but the white hair and orange shirt make him such a colorful character and I've always liked the original. He's by far the best one made from this genre.

Too bad that Outback is one of the international tiger force figures.

Internationaly Tiger Force was big, had easily double the figures and some really weird paint jobs: Hit & Run, Shipwreck.

Yeah, some of the paint jobs are really out there. I'm starting to like the Tiger Force Beach Head, though he looks like an expensive buy. I wish they had done a better Night Force version of him--I don't like the GI Joe painted on the thigh. I also think they could have done a better job with the Night Force Outback, black clothes instead of the dark green maybe.

I think Tiger Force is a fun and innovative way for GI Joe to taunt Cobra.

Think about it.

Not only did the Joes capture some Cobra vehicles, but they also managed to transform them into more effective fighting machines and subsequently kick Cobra's butt with their own gear.

And to top it all off, who is leading the charge? Duke!!! The Joe leader that Cobra tried to kill, but he's made a return to kick Cobra's butt!!!

I find it an amusing way to "stick it to Cobra" on several levels.

The Slaughters Marauders were the Joe equivilant to the Python Patrol. I always figured that Tiger Force was a jungle warfare unit. When I was a kid, I thought of them suiting up for special occassions, hence the TF uniforms.
But thats just me...

I loved tiger Force, but International Tiger Force is funny. Hit & Run has a hilarious paint job, so does Psyche-Out. I know it has been brought up several times that Frostbite seemed out of place on the American Tiger Force, but the International Tiger Force had Blizzard. I guess they just felt like there had to be a cold weather soldier in Tiger Force just in case.

If they make any more Tiger Force modern era joes, I'd really like to see Outback, even if he was an international figure. And I hope that any others are as good as Flint and Duke. Duke by the way has come a long way since his RAH version, which isn't as cool. Something about the shade of his pants that didn't quite match Flint's shirt. But this time around he seems to fit in.

Here's the real reason why Tiger Force was commissioned.

Back in the eighties, G.I. Joe decided to let Refrigerator Perry join the team. Well, Perry (being a Chicago Bear at the time) was to be put in command of a G.I. Joe offshoot based on the Cinncinatti
Bengals, hence Tiger Force. When the Bears went to the Super Bowl back in what, 1985 or 1986, Tiger Force was put on hold for a few years. When 1988 rolled around, Tiger Force was pulled out of mothballs, but the Fridge had moved on to form (with the cancelled Rocky Balboa figure) a housing project for temporarily crippled birds in Walla Walla up there in the Pacific Northwest. Perry resigned his G.I. Joe commission after his star staus imploded and was threatened to never mention G.I. Joe to anyone, or else he would be required to take speech therapy classes if he did. Believe me, he really needed them. I never could understand a word the guy said! Then again, what do you expect from a guy you could order for five Football Points (or whatver they were called)? It was like a mail order bride thing except he was an action fi...aw, never mind. Tiger Force went on to appear in a Tony Salmons drawn adventure where they battled the elite Python Patrol -- a Cobra special ops division that was even more top secreter (you read that right) than the mostly secret Cobra organization. It's almost like a top secret offshoot of a larger entity that nobody knows about to begin with. I think they call it "top secret". And now you know...
